SECURITY
Worldwide security software market revenuetotaled $13.5 billion in 2008, an increaseof 18.6% from 2007 revenue of $11.3billion, according to Gartner. There was anincreasing demand for appliance-basedproducts, particularly within e-mail security &secure web gateway markets.
STORAGE
Storage, says IDC, is far less likely toexperience spending cuts during thiseconomy than other technologies. FromSAN to NAS, storage is vital to any network. Also, annual cost to “manage” the world’sinstalled base of external storage is 60% ofall enterprise storage-related spending.
UNIFIED COMMS
UC, including video and audio conferencing& collaboration solutions, is one of the fewtechnology areas well placed to grow duringthe recession According to IDC, the UC sector acrossEurope was valued at $2.6bn in 2008 and isforecast to grow on a compound annual rateof 39% to $13.5bn in the next five years.
MOBILE
Gartner says mobile application adoption inenterprises grew at more than 25% CAGRfrom 2002 to 2008. Mobile applicationsare vital to running businesses. With theiremployees already equipped with mobiledevices for e-mail and phone calls, the naturalextension is to further empower employees.
VOIP
IDC says VoIP apps will grow from 2006 levelof $194.8 million to $2.25 billion by 2011.The market’s compound annual growth ratewill reach 63.1%.Much of the growth is driven by businesses,notes IDC.
SERVERS & MORE…
IDC expects a recovery for servers in 2010, as businesses build blade serverdata infrastructures. x86 server revenue will return to single digit growth by1Q10, largely due to demand for blade servers and consolidated infrastructures.Non-x86 revenue will make a decisive comeback in the second half of 2010 due topent-up demand for specific scale-up refreshment projects in the corporate space. Volume servers will experience a more gradual growth pattern, with revenueslowly picking up.
