The Human Proteome Resource (HPR) project is currently exploring the whole proteome through antibody-based proteomics, which combines the high throughput generation of monospecifi c antibodies with protein profi ling in a standard set of tissue microarrays (TMA) and cell microarrays (CMA). Antibody production starts with the selection of a protein epitope signature tag (PrEST). The PrEST fragment is typically 50-150 amino acids in length and is as dissimilar as possible to other proteins. The recombinant PrEST protein is utilized as the antigen to generate affi nity purifi ed monospedic antibodies.
