Pugh Safety & Reliability Directorate (Formerly a menber of the Stean Generating Heavy Water Reactor Design Office) United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority Wigshaw Lane, Culcheth Warrington WA3 4NE APPROVED FOR PUBLICATION SUMMARY ‘The paper briefly describes how probability techniques were used in the Stean Generating Heavy Vater Reactor (SGHWR) Design Office of the UKAEA to achieve a safe econonic reactor design. Probability techniques have proved to be a very useful design tool and generally promote a better understanding of s design. The hasic techniques are of value to all menbers of design team who can use then in the sane way that stressing and heat transfer techniques arc used, i.e., to enalyse simple problems and to place the more complex problens into the right perspective so that detailed analysis can be performed by a specialist, SRS/GR/E THE USE OF PROBABILITY TECHNIQUES IN A REACTOR DESIGN OFFICE by M,C.
