2Turning the page on 2008 at Project for Pride in Living(PPL) means, on the one hand, looking back at a recordsetting year for people served across the broadestspectrum of activities we have ever provided due toour merger with Loring Nicollet-Bethlehem CommunityCenters (LNB). Staff and Board are proud of workingwith over 12,500 people who were committed tochanging their lives for the better. In this report youwill see evidence of the satisfaction which comes
when people who care about one another nd ways, together, to surmount very difcult challenges.
On the other hand, like many others, PPL encountered
nancial hurdles, resulting from investment losses,
a collapsing homeownership market, and the deepening recession. The economic turmoil facing our community creates increasing demand for the work we do. Theseconditions aren’t going away any time soon, so needs will continue to grow. Growing needs in a timeof diminished resources means the way we approach our work will have to change. Doing “differentwith less” is the guidance we offer one another while working to maintain as high a level of services aspossible. What won’t change is the inspiration driving the people at PPL to make a positive difference each andevery day, inspiration which comes from a deeply held conviction that the people we work with haveinherent strengths and potential. I’ve heard it said that opinions change with the times but convictionsrarely do. So while we may be buffeted by events of the day, the core conviction fueling the work thisreport details remains unshaken!Thank you for the conviction which leads to your support. We are deeply grateful.
