Fusion welding
The most widely used welding proc-esses rely on fusion of the componentsat the joint line.In fusion welding, a heat source meltsthe metal to form a bridge between thecomponents.
Two widely used heat sources are:Gas flame
The molten metal must be protectedfrom the atmosphere - absorption of oxygen and nitrogen leads to a poorquality weld. Air in the weld area can be replaced bya gas which does not contaminate themetal, or the weld can be covered witha flux.
