MEMBERSHIP SCHEMES - 1
One of the most basic ways for community groups and associations to ensureconsistent revenue is to set up or enhance a membership scheme.At its most basic level, a membership scheme is simply a mechanism by whichpeople who are interested in your club, group or organisation can pay to join it.In return for that payment, members would expect to receive something -abenefit, discount, newsletter, or offer - which non-members would not receive. Membership schemes can take on many forms, but most frequently involveeither:

The ability to join for free, but then the payment of an annual fee, or,
•
A small initial joining fee to cover membership processing costs, orpossibly the printing of a membership card.

Following that, an annual fee would still be charged -but thatfee could be a little less expensive.Membership schemes are a particularly useful way to fund your activitiesbecause:

They generate a recurring and (hopefully) ever-growing revenuestream for your group. This opportunity to collect funds comes in theform of those annual subscriptions or membership fees. This source ofmoney, unlike grants, can be used on an unrestricted basis for generaloperating funds rather than for individual programs. You can alsostructure the scheme so it generates a constant stream of revenueacross all 12 months of the year.

Membership schemes also offer your supporters a chance to deepentheir commitment to your organisation and what it does, increasingloyalty to and involvement with your group.

Clearly define the purpose of your group
 A membership scheme requires people to join something. What they join must have meaning for them. So the purpose of your schemeneeds to have meaning not only for your organisation, but for membersas well. Ask how membership of your organisation will help people toachieve their goals and feel good/make a difference/have help andsupport.
