Hamilton, Ontario - With just days away from
the big event, people are hustling and bustling
getting their last minute Christmas shopping
done, wrapping their gifts for those who hold a
special place in their hearts, decorating their
homes, preparing for Christmas dinner when
family and friends get together to share in the
most celebrated of all annual holidays, with
love and cheer, Christmas.
As a young boy growing up south of
Montreal in a country area Christmas was my
most favorite time of the year. As I remember
the Christmas’ of times past, I find myself
smiling and traveling back in time as the smells
of Christmas cooking and baking filled the air,
laughter of Mom, Dad, younger brother, Uncles

and Aunts who would come over, bearing gifts
and cooked treats filled with Christmas Cheer.
Uncle Stan would drop by to get the
neck of the turkey, which was his favorite part
of the bird. Uncle Stan was in charge of testing
the ice on the river in front of the house to see if
it was safe enough to skate on.
Uncle Joe and Aunt Barb, who lived a
few streets over, dropped by with cousins
Melody and Joseph; Uncle Mack and Aunt Flo,
who lived on the other side of the tracks; Uncle
Stan would return with Aunt Margaret and
cousins Wayne and Stephen; Uncle Peter and
Aunt Georgie with cousins Peter and Nadine;
and Uncle Sid and Aunt Alozia with cousin
Dorothy all came over to our house where
Mom, Dad, Anthony and I lived with our
Grandmother.
“Nanny” as she was affectionately
called truly was the hub of our family, a family
that meant so much to me, a family filled with

However, as the years marched on, the
family dynamics changed as some passed on,
some moved away, and others drifted from the
family hub.
As the Ghost of Christmas Past takes me
through the Christmas’ of long ago, and so
many miles away, I feel the love, smell the
Christmas cooking and hear the laughter that
meant so much to me then, as it does today
when I celebrate Christmas with Laura, our 6
children and 4 grandchildren.
I hope that when they celebrate
Christmas in the years to come, that they too
will smile as they remember Christmas’ past.
As we celebrate Christmas 2007, I ask
each and every one of you to remember those
who we have been fortunate enough to have in
our life, and those who have touched and made
a difference in each and every one of us.
Ask blessing for the men and women
who serve in the armed services, some who are
stationed at home, others who are stationed
around the world, away from their families so
that we can enjoy the freedoms and democracy
that is oh so too often taken for granted.
Ask blessings for the First Responders
who protect us at home... law enforcement
officers, firefighters, paramedics, doctors and
nurses and other members of the health care
professionals who are there in our time of need.
Ask blessings for our politicians, so they
can guide us through this time in our every
changing - high speed world.
Ask for the wisdom that will allow each
and every one of us to have the ability to see
past the religious and theological philosophies
and to see past the color, creed, race, nationality
of others with whom we share this small planet,
to understand and respect their beliefs, as we
would have them respect and understand ours.
Let us remember those less fortunate
then us. The homeless, the lonely, the sick and
suffering, the hungry, and those who could use
a helping hand.
I look at Christmas as a time of new
beginnings. We all get another chance to make
amends, right wrongs, to share with those who
have not, a time for forgiving, understanding
and tolerance.
After all, wasn’t it on Christmas Day, so
many years ago, that a child was born in a
manger heralded by angelic messengers and a
wondrous star in the sky, that brought Three
Wise Men seeking the Christ Child?
Christmas is alive and well in each and
everyone who believes and will never die. For
belief is the strongest power in the Universe and
is a testament to mankind's ability to be as one.
Whether you say Merry Christmas,
Season’s Greetings or Happy Holidays, from
our home to yours, my Christmas Wish for you
and yours is Love, Peace, Health, Joy and
Harmony and that we all work together to make
this world what that little child, who was born
on December 25th knew it could be and that we
are all shepherds of this third planet from the
Sun, the Planet Earth.

Unfortunately, once our modern-day
world is abruptly taken off line, most people
will be in for a very harsh-rude awakening!
Life here on Earth will never be the same
again…
And it's highly probable that billions of
people will survive the passage of the brown
dwarf itself, but because few people will
actually take the time to prepare/provide for
their own personal self-sufficiency, many will
likely perish after the initial wave of destruction
sweeps over and across Earth. Simply put,
millions of people won't be able to fend for, or
defend themselves, once most of our 'taken for
granted' 21st century conveniences and
pleasures are suddenly eliminated.
As tragic as these approaching events
are however, they are in reality, simply only one
isolated part of what's really going on! This
incoming celestial object and the destruction it's
going to cause represents only one chapter of an
even more mysterious unfolding celestial
drama. The Return Of Planet-X book represents
only that first chapter of a much 'larger work'

So what about this larger picture in which the
brown dwarf's passage plays its supporting
role?
At this point in time you should be able

approaching planet Earth and our solar system

significant damage upon us when it passes. We
also believe it's possible that an ET race has

eliminated in the potential disaster of a pole

governments and capitals of the world are

For unbeknownst to most people, planet
Earth is currently engaged in a great power
struggle of galactic proportions. In the near
future this planet is slated for great changes with
a multitude of different/competing power
groups (both on / off the planet), frantically
laying plans to become the newest / badest /
biggest 'top dog' power structure-once the
smoke/death/destruction clears from the
upcoming radical Islamic fascist-driven terrorist
holocaust fully rips loose across the planet.
You could say that a 'cosmic battle' is
currently being waged on battlefield Earth. This
conflict is taking place right in front of our eyes,
as most humans appear 'out of touch' with
what's really happening around them-thus
failing to realize this conflict is even happening.
Unfortunately, this evil battle is for ultimate
control of our planet and the future of all
humans inhabiting it.
On one side of this cosmic battlefield
stands a global conglomerate of powerful
individuals and governments (let's simply call
them The Illuminatis), jockeying for their
complete/individual 'positions of control'-once
dreaded events of the brown dwarf's passage
come to life. They're also preparing themselves
and their respective societies covertly, in a
clandestine manner that's also going unnoticed
by the public. If these current power structures
manage to maintain and later coordinate their
all-powerful control centers secreted across this
planet, we may also awake to find/face a world
that's far more different/complex/dangerous
than today.
On the other side of this planetary
battlefield stands a group of alien entities that
has (through intelligent genetic manipulation of
our species), created a new race of Homo-
hybrid beings scheduled to 'replace' much of the
human population living on Earth at this time.
And in reality, these same aliens are also
replacing the current 'power structures'
governing this world. They are doing it
'covertly' and in a manner that is largely going
'unnoticed' by the general public. This 'good-
guy' Homo-hybrid race repopulates our planet
after much of present-day humanity is
eliminated during the pole shift event (2012). If
these Homo-hybrids are successfully merged
into place in the near future-planet Earth could
become a far different place than it is today.
The global public is utterly oblivious to
this raging 'power struggle' and is unfortunately
caught up within their one-sided objectives.
Once again, because the average person is so
'caught up' / 'distracted' by their family matters,
daily jobs, hobbies, sports, fantasy football
leagues, the latest consumer electronics and
play-time games (including their 'must see'
reality-based TV)-that they've become totally
unaware of this clandestine cosmic battle
currently raging around them.
Needless to say, since both sides in this
galactic 'chess game' use their general
populations to further their objectives
(dominate control of the planet), it's in the
vested interest of both parties to keep the public
as ignorant as possible regarding what's really
going on within global politics.
Truth of the matter is-we're now waging
the biblical battle of Armageddon, the final
struggle for planet Earth, the prophesied unholy
war based on good versus evil-notwithstanding
the threat of global terrorism. The upcoming
passage of Wormwood is simply the 'cosmic
catalyst' that sparks all sides into initiating their
'final control moves' on this living space rock-
Earth.
Who will ultimately win this inevitable
battle is unclear. All warring sides have not yet
played out their cards-and these many-sided
factions still have powerful aces hidden up their
sleeves. We believe that the global war on
terrorism is a many-faceted threat with
implications that reach far beyond ethnic /
fundamentalist/religious or political factions all
vying for power as 'X' arrives.
The universe in which we live-is truly a
strange mixture of creative and destructive
forces. Everywhere we look throughout the
cosmos we see miraculous birth and great
beauty indelibly mixed with unbridled
destruction. Throughout the cosmos countless
worlds are created and destroyed on a constant
basis. Large interstellar clouds of gas and dust
are giving birth to new stars while other, older
stars are exploding in massive supernovas.
Some planets, we believe, are being evacuated /
abandoned forever while others are being
repopulated and colonized-all part of the cosmic
ebb and flow of the universe, the 'yin' and 'yang'
of God's eternal creation!
The bigger picture as presented here
must include the most recent aspects of what
appears to be a growing escalation in the degree
and severity of natural disasters that include
abnormal seasonal weather patterns with much
warmer winters / burning summers/with
extended seasonal periods.

"The giant iron ball at the center of Earth
appears to be spinning slightly faster than the
rest of the planet. The solid core, which
measures about 1,500 miles in diameter, is
spinning about one-quarter to one-half degree
faster per year than the rest of the world,
scientists from Columbia University and the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
report in the current issue of Science. Scientists
are interested in the spin (aspects) of Earth's
core because of its role in generating the
magnetic field that protects the planet from
solar blasts and its involvement in (the role of)
volcanoes and earthquakes. The researchers
base this conclusion on their analysis of travel
times and shape of earthquake waves as they

In our ongoing Planet-X discussion,
we'd like remind our readers of what we believe
are truly alarming global disaster statistics
facing our world in the near future. Once again
the old axiom stating that "our past reflects our
future"-is best demonstrated by the existing
stats and stories of disaster events and the
astonishing cumulative numbers of natural
catastrophies striking Earth from the near past
to present-day 2007/2008.

Geologically speaking, we're living in
the Cenozoic era which began 65-million years
ago. The start of this geologic period seemingly
happened to coincide ('by chance') with what's
believed to be one of the greatest of all natural
disasters to ever strike Earth, that being a
gigantic asteroid that theoretically smashed into
what is now the Gulf of Mexico near the
Yucatan Peninsula. It's further believed this
asteroid event also caused the demise of the
dinosaurs, a great catastrophe that signaled a
dramatic new beginning for the evolution of
most, if not all, life forms that were finally freed
from these extreme predatory reptilian beasts
stalking/terrorizing/controlling Earth for over
365-million years. (Who hasn't seen Steven
Spielberg's great Jurassic Park trilogy?)
We believe it's vitally important for our
readers to understand the relationship between
Mother Nature and the world she rules over
with its billions of human inhabitants. And in
doing so-our book reviews historical
perspectives on the history of natural disasters
ravaging mother Earth in the past. We believe
this review is critically important because of the
current dramatic uptick in the degree, severity
and recurrence of natural disasters presently
afflicting this planet in record numbers since

have happened over and over again that so
decimated our history?

It has been fascinating for someone such
as myself, who has been researching the subject
of UFOs for over five decades, to see how
greatly the field of UFO research has been
complicated and confused by popular culture,
specifically by motion pictures and, more
recently, television.
Since the majority of Americans learn
their history through the cinematic
presentations provided by Hollywood--whether
it is the "truth" about The Alamo, the invasion
of Normandy Beach, or the collapse of the
Soviet Union--so do the vast majority of men
and women acquire their facts about the flying
saucer mystery through the flickering lights of
the movies.
Invaders from Outer Space
While there have been numerous
science-fiction films that have used the theme of
alien invaders, there are certain motion pictures
and television series that seem to have
impressed the mass psyche of their audiences
far more than those with simple plots dealing
with bug-eyed monsters terrifying the
inhabitants of Earth.
In 1951, Howard Hawks' The Thing
from Another World told the story of a small
group of Air Force personnel and scientists
stationed at an isolated outpost near the North
Pole who must deal with an alien that needs
their blood in order to survive. The film was a
thriller that steadily built tension and
frighteningly portrayed how helpless humans
might be at the hands of a single powerful alien
life-form.
In War of the Worlds (1953), George Pal
adapted H.G. Wells' novel of alien invasion and
transformed it into a cinema classic. The film
follows the struggle of two scientists (Gene
Barry and Ann Robinson) as they attempt to
help Earth survive a devastating attack by
Martians. The suspense is intensified by their
own narrow escapes, and the reality for motion
picture audiences lay in seeing the major cities
of Earth lying strewn about in heaps of rubble.
Although the horror of seemingly unstoppable
aliens was a frightening theme, the film is
extremely well-presented and won an Academy
Award for its special effects. While Earth is
saved by the motion picture's end, the
devastation rendered by the extraterrestrial
invaders left unforgettable images in the minds
of the audience.
While the film version of Wells' novel
was very successful upon its release, the impact
it had on mass consciousness cannot be
compared to the effect of the radio broadcast of
War of the Worlds on the day before Halloween
in 1938. At that time, CBS' Mercury Theatre
presented Orson Welles and a talented cast
simulating a live news broadcast of an invasion
of Earth by mechanized Martian war machines.
Because the account of unstoppable alien beings
landing in the New Jersey farmlands was
depicted so realistically--and because many
listeners tuned in after the Mercury Theatre
production was already in progress--the greater
part of the entire nation was in panic over the
invaders from Mars.
Invading aliens continued to be a
popular theme in a number of motion pictures
throughout the 1950s. Invaders from Mars
(1953) remains in many movie-goers' memory
as the single most frightening film of their
childhood. Perhaps what made the film so
terrifying to young people was the premise that
one's parents, teachers, and friends could be
taken over by alien life forms and work toward
a nationwide conspiracy.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)
developed the theme of aliens possessing family
and friends to a high degree of paranoia. While
in Invaders from Mars, the extraterrestrials
attached themselves to their victims' body, in
Invasion of the Body Snatchers, they brought
strange pods with them from their world which
grew into likenesses of those humans whom
they replaced.
Some social historians argue that the
UFO craze began when the threat of nuclear war
with the Soviet Union hung like a black cloud
over the world and many people were desperate
to believe that some force from the skies could
appear and deliver Earth from nuclear
annihilation. Still other scholars suggest that it
may have been the U.S. government itself that
began the rumors of flying saucers in order to
divert public attention from the development of
its own secret weapons. Perhaps such a
prevailing atmosphere of national distrust
contributed to the horror of films about UFO
invaders, but the unsettling concept of aliens
slowly taking over Earth through the possession
of human bodies became firmly implanted in
the psyches of millions of men and women who
now looked even more suspiciously at the skies
above them. Invasion of the Body Snatchers has
been remade twice; the third version is about to
open in theaters early in 2008.
Such television series as The Twilight
Zone (1959-1964) and The Outer Limits (1963-
1965) occasionally featured episodes
concerning alien invaders, but it was a series
aptly named The Invaders (1967-1969), starring
Roy Thinnes, that focused on the paranoid
concept that evil aliens might be living
undetected among humans and conspiring to
conquer them. Thinnes was David Vincent, an
architect, who happened to be the only human
witness of a UFO landing. No one believed his
account, so once he discovered that the
extraterrestrials had arrived with the sole intent
of taking over the planet, it became his mission
to stop them, alerting and enlisting whomever
he could to assist him. Vincent's task became all
the more difficult because whenever he
managed to kill one of the invaders, their
physical body disintegrated, leaving no
evidence to convince the authorities that aliens
were walking and plotting among them. When
the series ended in 1969, Vincent had not been
able to stem the tide of alien invasion, and the
stories of extraterrestrials posing as humans had
received more substantiation from a television
series that many insisted was telling the truth
disguised as a fictional presentation.

Spielberg claimed that he had adapted
many actual stories of UFO contact for the
screenplay, including accounts from the files of
Dr. J. Allen Hynek, the astronomer who had
been employed by the Air Force in their official
research of the UFO mystery, Project Blue
Book. Hynek was even given a cameo in the
film, and he can be seen among the scientists
gathered to welcome the aliens when the
massive mother ship sets down on Devil's
Tower.
The final scenes of the motion picture
have been described by many as simulating a
religious or illumination experience within
them. The score by John Williams, the special
effects created by Douglas Trumbull, and the
remarkable camerawork of Vilmos Zsigmond
certainly added to the feelings of mystical and
supernatural wonder that so enchanted millions
of audience members worldwide.
The alien beings, when they are at last
revealed on screen, appear to be childlike,
benevolent entities, seemingly so innocent as to
be incapable of interstellar travel. And when
Neary is selected to return with them to their
world, many people were touched vicariously
and felt their spirit prepare to lift off with them.
Such a positive portrayal of alien life
forms as that depicted in Close Encounters of
the Third Kind was in sharp contrast to the
monsters and the invaders that had populated so
many science fiction motion pictures, and the
way was paved for the arrival of Speilberg's
E.T.--The Extraterrestrial (1982). In this film,
an amphibian/reptilian entity so lived on the
love vibration from his "heart light" that
audiences could not resist its charm.
The evil alien invader was banished
from the screen and television sets, and talk of
government coverups were forgotten by all by a
small number of diehard UFO investigators. All
over the world, contactees once again were
channeling messages from benevolent entities
watching over humankind.
The Abductees
Sinister aliens doing terrible things to
humans didn't return to the general public
consciousness until stories of men and women
claiming to have been abducted by
extraterrestrial crews for purposes of
undergoing bizarre medical examinations were
featured by UFO investigator Budd Hopkins in
his book Missing Time (1981). In a later work,
Intruders (1987), he continued to propagate the
theory that aliens were abducting Earth men and
women for the purpose of creating a hybrid mix
of ET and human DNA.
When Whitley Streiber published
Communion in 1987, he transformed himself
from a well-established horror writer into the
world's most famous UFO abductee (or
contactee, depending upon one's definitions of
the terms). The author of such popular novels as
The Wolfen (1978) and The Hunger, both of
which were made into successful motion
pictures, Streiber startled readers and
researchers alike when he wrote a first-person
account of his encounters with the "visitors" and
detailed his personal abduction experience that
had occurred December 26, 1985. The grim
insect-like visage of the "Gray" staring out from
the cover of Communion seemed to be an evil
cousin of similar beings that had lovingly
encircled and embraced Roy Neary in Close
Encounters of the Third Kind.
The case of Betty and Barney Hill offers
the prototype for the "interrupted journey," the
classic case of humans abducted and examined
by aliens from another world. On September 19,
1961, Betty, a social worker, and Barney, a mail
carrier, then in their forties, were returning to
their home in New Hampshire from a short
Canadian vacation when they noticed a bright
object in the night sky. Barney stopped the car
and used a pair of binoculars to get a better look
at it. As he studied the object, its own
illumination showed well-defined disk-like
shape, moving in an irregular pattern across the
moonlit sky.
Fascinated, Barney walked into a nearby
field where from that perspective he could
perceive what appeared to be windows--and,
from the windows, beings looking back at him.
The feeling that he was being watched
frightened Barney, and he ran back to the car,
got in, and began to race down the road. Then,
as if obeying some internal directive, he drove
down a side road--where the Hills found five
humanoid aliens standing in their path.
Suddenly unable to control their movements,
Betty and Barney were taken from their car and,
in a trancelike condition, led to the UFO by the
humanoids.
According to information later retrieved
under hypnosis, Betty and Barney were returned
unharmed to their car with the mental command
that they would forget all about their abduction
experience. The UFO then rose into the air and
disappeared from sight, leaving the Hills to
continue their journey home, oblivious to the
whole event.
Perhaps the remarkable encounter
would never have been brought to light except
for two factors: they began to experience
strange and disconcerting dreams that they
could not understand, and they could not
explain the unaccountable two missing hours in
their journey home from Canada.
Betty decided to seek the help of a
psychiatrist friend, who suggested that the
memory of those lost hours would return in
time, perhaps in only a few months. But the
details of that unexplained "interruption"
remained in a troubled limbo of fragmented
memories until the Hills began weekly hypnosis
sessions with Dr. Benjamin Simon, a Boston
psychiatrist.
Much has been made of the Hills' alien
medical examinations, and their much
publicized experience may have provided the
prototype for thousands of other individuals
who have claimed alien abductions with their
requisite physical and sexual exams. Their story
was covered extensively by John G. Fuller in the
book Interrupted Journey (1966), and presented
in a made-for-television movie (1975) with
James Earl Jones and Estelle Parsons playing
Barney and Betty.
In 1989, Whitley Strieber adapted
Communion into a motion picture with
Christopher Walken portraying the author.
In 1992, Budd Hopkins' Intruders
became a television miniseries starring Richard
Crenna, Mare Willingham, and Susan Blakely.
The television version of Hopkins' book
chillingly portrayed military and political
figures covering up the truth about alien
abductions while issuing official denials that
such events were taking place.
Once again, invading, threatening,
abusive aliens and the entire UFO mystery were
things to be feared, and thousands of people
around the world, watching such films as these,
began to recall abduction scenarios that
allegedly had been repressed until brought to
conscious memories by such frightening
scenarios as those depicted on the screen. Or so
it would seem.
It may surprise many readers to learn
that back in the early 1960s, there were a
number of serious researchers investigating
claims of UFO contact and abduction. It will
surprise even more readers to learn that the
scenarios told by the experiencers have
remained basically unchanged down through
the decades. There truly are no new revelations
to make concerning the contactee and the
abductee phenomena.
John A. Keel once told me how
nonplussed he was to discover in reading
through a number of old and rare books that
these much earlier contactees were not only
undergoing the classic contact experiences, but
they were receiving messages almost identical
to the modern messages. Using a colorful
image, Keel said that it seemed to him as if all
these people, widely separated by time, have
been receiving communications which are being
broadcast over and over again as if by some
giant "phonograph" in the sky.

It wasn’t a UFO. It wasn’t a meteorite. The
source of a prolonged flare in the evening sky
off the Atlantic coast on Monday, Dec. 10, was
due to the separation of disposable components
from a Cape Canaveral launched rocket.
Ken Warren, a spokesperson for the
U.S. Air Force's 45th Space Wing at Patrick
AFB in Florida, says the Atlas V booster left the
launch pad with a National Reconnaissance
Office national security payload at 5:05 p.m.
Eastern Time.
Hurtling through the atmosphere at a
speed of 15,040 feet per second or 8,911 knots,
at a height of approximately 380,000 ft., the
craft reached our area at 5:16 p.m. E.T. (6:16
p.m. Atlantic Daylight Time).
The first stage expendable fuel tank and
the top portion of the rocket, which is known as
the payload faring, separated and continued to
rise to over 600,000 ft. before beginning its re-
entry.
Warren says there are two possibilities
for the widely seen flare.
“Our analysis shows that fireballs could
have been produced by the jettisoned bodies. In
this case no fuel is involved, just friction with
the atmosphere. If the observations occurred
fairly close to the launch time this could have
been what was seen. The Centaur stage also
completed a fuel depletion maneuver, which
would have occurred much later. This occurs in
orbit with no re-entering debris. This was also
reported to have been seen,” he said.
The booster and payload faring dropped
in the northern Atlantic Ocean in the vicinity of
Sable Island--approximately 120 miles east of
Nova Scotia as planned.
“Launch trajectories are chosen to
reduce the risk to personnel along the flight
path to the maximum extent possible,” said
Warren.
Notices to airmen and mariners were
issued in advance of the launch to ensure the
safety of personnel that may have been in the
vicinity of potential impact areas.
Many fishermen contacted the
Canadian Coast Guard reporting the flash,
concerned that it might be an emergency flare
from a mariner in distress.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre
in Halifax received close to a dozen reports of
“the light in the sky” from New Brunswick,
Nova Scotia and PEI.
This marks the fourth successful Atlas
V launched from Cape Canaveral AFS this year.
On Dec. 20 another Eastern Range launch will
take place - a Delta ll rocket carrying a
NAVSTAR Global Positioning System satellite.
Launches on similar flight azimuths to
the Dec. 10 launch are not uncommon but occur
infrequently.
Warren says there are no plans to
recover the jettisoned components.
“At this time there is no plan to retrieve
the debris; the United States government does
not routinely retrieve first stage components,"

(1973), Keel commented further than the slight
alterations in the content are probably made in
the percipients' minds to tailor the messages to
contemporary situations. "There is a storage
factor," Keel said. "Perhaps the original signal
is stored in the collective unconscious, or
perhaps there is some mechanism beyond our
space-time continuum which is repeating an
endless 'tape.' If all percipients in all ages have
been receiving the same signals, then the actual
transmission is not especially pertinent to any
given period. The same source and process
which inspired the Book of Revelation is at
work in modern revelation."
Whatever this great UFO mystery is, it
remains consistent, but it also continues to be
flavored by popular culture. The challenge to
the serious researcher also remains always
consistent: Be mindful of how difficult it is to
truly differentiate between what is an actual
experience sincerely reported and what is a
deceptive mind-meld of Hollywood illusion
and misinterpreted personal mystical
experience.

t the UFO DATA conference in October
2007 I met up with veteran UFO investigator
David Beezer. I've known David for many years
and he has regularly attended many of our
public events. David wanted me to read a report
he had received from a for RAF officer but on
the day I simply did not have the time. David
made me a copy of the report in question and I
read it a day or two after the conference had
finished.
The report came from a Mr. Alan Turner
MBE and concerned a UFO observed on radar
at RAF Sopley in the summer of l971. I
subsequently contact Mr. Turner and have his
permission to document the following. His
report is published in full.
Alan Turner was aged twenty-five when
he joined the Royal Air Force in l966 and was
commissioned that year as an Air Traffic
Control Officer. RAF Sopley was a wartime
bunker, which had been converted into a joint
military/civilian Air Traffic Control Radar Unit
(ATCRU): it closed in l974 when both the civil
and military ATC functions were transferred to
West Drayton.
Alan Turner remained in the RAF
eventually to command the Central ATC School
from 1990 to 1992. In July 1995 he was
discharged from the RAF in the rank of Wing
Commander.
This is Wing Commanders Turner's
account of what he personally observed at RAF
Sopley in the summer of l971 in full:
In the summer of 1971 I was the Duty
Military Supervisor at RAF Sopley, which was
a joint military/civil Air Traffic Control Radar
Unit (ATCRU). It was a Tuesday afternoon but
I cannot remember the exact date. The Duty
Civil Supervisor drew my attention to a
situation on radar the likes of which neither of
us had ever encountered.
Emanating from a point some twenty
nautical miles east of the eastern extremity of
the Salisbury Plain Danger Area were a series of
six or seven blips moving on a south-easterly
track each being separated from the other by
about six miles. At about forty miles from the
point they appeared on radar they disappeared
to be followed almost immediately by a
replacement at the point of origin.
I put the FPS 6 Height Finder onto some
returns to discover that they were about 3000
feet when they came into radar cover and
climbing extremely rapidly so that, by the time
they disappeared from radar, they were in
excess of 60,000 feet. To climb to such a height
in only forty miles was beyond the ability of
any fighter aircraft at the time.
The phenomenon was witnessed by four
civil and six military controllers on duty at the
time. I called Heathrow Radar to discover that
they, also, wee seeing a similar picture. The
same situation prevailed in the Fighter Control
Operations Rooms at RAF Neatishead. The
three units involved operated different radars
from each other thus different frequencies were
in use. The weather forecast from the south of
England was calm and sunny. I called the Met
Office to confirm the strength of the upper
winds to find that they were also relatively calm
and were about fifty degrees off the
southeasterly track of the blips; they also
confirmed that there were not Met
balloons/probes airborne at the time.
The winds were not strong enough, nor
in the right direction, to cause the blips to travel
on their observed track especially at the speed
they were travelling. It was estimated that they
were doing around 250 knots, but it must be
borne in mind that this was a lateral speed as
seen on radar - they must have been travelling
very much faster to climb over 50,000 feet in
less than forty miles. Equally the weather was
such that there were no 'angels' to affect the
radar picture. "Angels" was a euphemism for,
what were believed to be, ionozed pockets of air
which, under very specific atmospheric
conditions, were often seen on radar screens in
those days: when seen, these 'angels' traveled
extremely slowly simply drifting along
haphazard tracks. In those days all radars were
'raw'. That is to say that, whatever was within
the coverage of the radar envelope and capable
of bouncing (returning) the radar pulse back to
the receiver, would be seen on the radar tube.
Today's radars are computerised thus such
interference is processed out so as not to affect
the picture.
Looking around for some other method
of checking what was going on, I discovered
that a controller had two Canberras on
frequency returning from Germany. One of the
pilots agreed to investigate so I assumed control
of his aircraft and, having confirmed he was in
good visual met conditions, I vectored him on to
the blips keeping him regularly updated on their
position relative to the Canberra. The aircraft
was flying at around nineteen thousand feel and
when it got within a mile or so of one particular
blip, the pilot reported, in a very agitated voice,
that his radar had picked something up heading
down his port side by about a quarter of a mile
and 'climbing like the clappers', it was on a
reciprocal heading to the Canberra. The pilot
admitted that neither he nor his navigator made
any visual contact and confirmed that the
weather conditions were such that they would
have had no difficultly seeing something that
close.
The whole episode lasted for twenty
minutes or more before the blips stopped
appearing. I impounded the R/T tapes and the
Radar Video film and made appropriate entries
in the log. Each person in the Ops Room who
witnessed the incident was required to write a
report. The Squadron Leader in charge of
Operations collated the reports and informed
higher authority. Within a couple of days I was
interviewed in the Squadron Leader's office by
two men who were not identified to me. I, along
with all the others in the Ops Room on the day
in question, were told in no uncertain terms not
to relate what we had seen until cleared to do so.
About four years later I was serving at RAF
Wattisham when the Station Commander asked
to see me. I was told that he had a
communication from the MoD about the
incident at Sopley and that as 'nothing could be
confirmed' the situation was such that doubt
would be cast on anything I said about it. I took
this to mean that I was no longer to remain
silent.
I am at a loss to explain what I, and
many other people, saw. In those days aircraft
could not climb at such a rate. To be seen on
displays by three different ground radars, plus
the airborne radar in the Canberra, is also a
mystery. The weather conditions were very
definitely VMC or Visual Met Conditions; the
aircraft was clear of cloud by at least a thousand
feet vertically and with a forward visibility of at
least five nautical miles.

remembering the exact date of the incident and
believes that there are those out there that will
use this to discredit his account. I'll leave you
with his final comments on the incident; "Please
use the information in any way you see fit; I
stand by what I saw because I know what I
saw."
Colleagues and I intend to submit a
Freedom of Information request to the UK
Ministry of Defence, and should we obtain any
further information we will of course publish it
due course.

- In a move sure to provide fodder for conspiracy
theorists, the Clinton Library withheld e-mails
with subject lines like "X-Files" and "Area 51"
from a batch of documents recently released at a
UFO buff's request.
National Archives officials made several
files - ranging from a White House staffer's
obsession with the TV show The X-Files to
President Clinton's push to hook up the Sci-Fi
Channel at Camp David - available for viewing
starting last Thursday in response to Freedom of
Information requests.
Several pages, however, were withheld
because they would "constitute a clearly
unwarranted invasion of personal privacy,"
according to National Archives documents.
Among the released pages, 27 come from
the files of former White House Chief of Staff
John Podesta, a fan of The X-Files, a show about
FBI agents investigating extraterrestrials and
other supernatural events. The files include
articles forwarded to Podesta about the canceled
Fox show.

In 1995, a group called the "Project
Starlight Coalition" sent President Clinton a letter
asking him to declassify any documents about
extraterrestrials or UFOs.
Two months later, an aide replied that he
had forwarded the request for a meeting to White
House staff.
"The President appreciates your interest
and long-standing involvement in this issue,"
James A. Dorskind, a special assistant to the
president, wrote to members of the coalition.
The files also include an e-mail between
White House spokeswomen Patricia F. Lewis and
Mary Ellen Glynn over a Hollywood Reporter
question about Clinton's insistence on installing
the Sci-Fi channel at the presidential retreat.
"I know we're not going to talk about it,
but it's one of the better questions I've heard in a
while and I wanted to share," Lewis wrote.
The records are being released in response
to a slew of requests from UFO enthusiast Grant
Cameron, who operates a Web site on presidential
history with extraterrestrials. Cameron has several
other requests pending, including one for "all files
on the Kennedy assassination."
He did not immediately respond to an e-
mail message seeking comment. []

 22 1535, First Christmas In Canada
1535, THE FIRST frozen in and the little colony was beginning to

preparations. The buildings could not keep out
the penetrating cold. There were no cellars in
CANADA which to keep supplies. All the drinkables were
frozen hard, and melted snow had to be used for
water, as rivers and streams were soon locked
fast by the ice. Salt meat and stale vegetables
formed the greater part of the diet, and by
Christmas time health was beginning to suffer
and the first whisper of the dread disease of
scurvy was apparent among the whites.

The first Christmas observed in Canada,

that of 1535, was kept -- but scarcely enjoyed -
- by one hundred and ten souls in a tiny
palisaded fortress on the banks of the Ste. Croix
River (now the St. Charles), near the present
City of Quebec. On the site of the latter was
then the Indian Village of Stadacona.
Jacques Carier and his advance guard of
settlers were by Christmas time beginning the
struggle with the terrible hardships which
during the winter beset the little band, killed
twenty-five of its members, and reduced the
remainder to a state of helplessness for many
weeks.
The French ships had come bravely up
the river during the previous summer, and had
been joyously welcomed by the Indians, who
were well supplied with gifts by the newcomers.
The Isle of Bacchus (the Island of Orleans) and
the land on either side of the great river of
Canada had been explored, and a plot of land at
the mouth of the Ste. Croix Croix had been
selected as the most suitable location for winter
settlement. Jacques Cartier had made his way
up as far as Hochelaga, and had returned to his
band in time to over-see the final preparations
for the cold weather.
It became noticable before winter set in
that there was a change of attitude on the part of
the Indians. Outwardly they were friendly, but
the Frenchmen soon became convinced that the
two guides, whom they had carried off to France
on a previous expedition and had brought back
to serve as interpreters, were sowing
disaffection among the people of Stadacona.
Their influence on Chief Donnacona was
marked, and the settlers took as their mottos
thenceforward, "He who is watchful loses
nothing."
By the end of November the ships were

watching. Sometimes they came to visit the
settlement, and often they tried to entice the
whites to visit their village on one pretext or
another. There were ceremonious protestations
of friendship on both sides, but the French were
always conscious of the silent and observant
movements of the natives. They, therefore,
determined, above all, no matter how sick they
were, to maintain a show of activity and
strength about the fortress, lest, tempted by the
obvious weakness of the garrison, the Indians
should decide to attack it.
Christmas in those circumstances
couldn't be a very merry affair. It came,
however, before the worst of the winter trials,
while the settlers were still buoyed up by the
hope of future discoveries and by the tales of
Donnacona -- a man of some imagination,
apparently -- who told them of precious stones
and metals to be found in lands beyond the
country of Saguenay; of white men dressed in
cloth like themselves who inhabited a region
near a great inland sea of fresh water; of lands
of luxurious vegetation south of the Great River,
where other red-skinned people lived; and of a
mysterious race of one-legged people living in
some ill-defined territory far from the district
known as Canada. All these things interested the
adventurers mightily, and imagination,
combined with a taste of the most precious of
their food supplies, probably helped to make
Christmas Day a little more cheerful than those
which had preceded it. It was certainly far more
cheerful than many which followed it, for there
came a time when all but ten of the party were
near death from scurvy. Courageous hearts
alone enabled the little colony to hold out until
the spring, and to deceive the Indians into
thinking the band strong and prepared for attack
in the days when they were threatened with utter
extermination.

The origin of the Christmas carol we
know as Silent Night was a poem that was
written in 1816 by an Austrian priest
called Joseph Mohr. On Christmas Eve in
1818 in the small alpine village called
Oberndorf it is reputed that the organ at
St. Nicholas Church had broken. Joseph
Mohr gave the poem of Silent Night
(Stille Nacht) to his friend Franz Xavier
Gruber and the melody for Silent Night
was composed with this in mind. The
music to Silent Night was therefore
intended for a guitar and the simple score
was finished in time for Midnight Mass.

Christmas carols are based on Christian
lyrics and relate, in the main, to the Nativity.
Christmas carols were introduced in to church
services by St Francis of Assisi in the 12th
century. As for the word carols, "carol" is a
derivative of the French word caroller, the
interpretation of which means dancing around
in a circle. Carol and carols, eventually came to
mean not only to dance but included music and
lyrics - hence modern Xmas Carols.
The joyous themes for many Christmas
carols were banned in England by the staunch
Protestant Oliver Cromwell and many of the
very old Christmas carols were subsequently
lost for all time. Christmas carols were only
fully popularised again during the Victorian era
when they again expressed joyful and merry
themes in their carol lyrics as opposed to the
normal, more sombre, Christian lyrics found in
hymns. As religious observances in the United
States and England were closely linked the
popularity of Christmas carols grew in both
countries in the 19th century. Many Christmas
traditions are relatively recent such as Santa
Claus and reindeer and bear no relation to
Christmas carols.

Lyrics
The Carol of the Bells lyrics were added
to the original folk music from the Ukraine by
Peter Wilhousky. The lyrics and words to this
popular Christmas song celebrate the festive
season and its traditions such as the pealing of
church bells at Christmas and of the singing of
Christmas Carols - caroling. The original
Ukrainian lyrics to the song was entitled
Shchedryk meaning bountiful and were
traditionally sang to celebrate the New Year.

of Glory was an Irishman called James
Montgomery. He came from a religious family
background and sadly his parents, who were
missionaries died following their vocation.
Angels From the Realms of Glory was written
in 1816. The music for Angels From the Realms
of Glory was composed by Henry Smart. The
lyrics of Angels From the Realms of Glory tell
the story of the shepherds, sages and Saints.
Ave Maria
The Ave Maria was composed in about
1825 by Franz Schubert (1797-1828) when he
was twenty-eight years old and filled with
devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was
written for voice and piano and first Published
in 1826 as Op 52 no 6. The words most
commonly used with Schubert's music are not
the words that the composer originally set to
music. Franz Schubert actually wrote the music
for an excerpt from the poem "The Lady of the
Lake" by Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832), which
was translated into German by Adam Storck.
Schubert called his piece Ellens dritter Gesang
(Ellen's third song). In this particular excerpt
from the poem the heroine, Ellen Douglas, is in
hiding and prays to the Virgin Mary. A letter
from Schubert to his father and step-mother
refers to his music to Ave Maria:
"My new songs from Scott's Lady of the
Lake especially had much success. They also
wondered greatly at my piety, which I expressed
in a hymn to the Holy Virgin and which, it
appears, grips every soul and turns it to
devotion."
The original words by Sir Walter Scott
are detailed below and include many references
to the Latin "Ave Maria" prayer. This, no doubt,
inspired an unknown person to fit the Latin
"Ave Maria" prayer text to Schubert's notes, and
it almost succeeds with a couple of exceptions.
The adapted Latin words of Ave Maria prayer (
Hail Mary ) is now the version most commonly
performed with the music of Schubert.
Away in a Manger!
Away in a manager is always the first
carol that children are taught. Away in a Manger
was originally published in 1885. The
publication of Away in a Manger was in a
Lutheran Sunday school book and this created
the misconception that the lyrics of Away in a
Manger were actually written by Martin Luther
himself. The author is unknown. The music to
Away in a Manger was composed by William J.
Kirkpatrick in 1895.
Deck the Halls!
The music to Deck the Halls is believed
to Welsh in origin and was reputed to have come
from a tune called "Nos Galan" dating back to
the sixteenth century. In the eighteenth century
Mozart used the tune to Deck the Halls for a
violin and piano duet J.P. McCaskey is
sometimes credited with the lyrics of Deck the
Halls but he only edited the Franklin Square
Song Collection in which the lyrics were first
published. The first publication date of Deck the
Halls is 1881. The author is unknown but the
words are said to originate in America.
God Rest Ye Merry
Merry Gentlemen!
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen was first
published in 1833 when it appeared in
"Christmas Carols Ancient and Modern," a
collection of seasonal carols gathered by
William B. Sandys. The lyrics of God Rest Ye
Merry Gentlemen are traditional olde English
and are reputed to date back to the 15th century
although the author is unknown.. It is believed
that this particular carol was sung to the gentry
by town watchmen who earned additional
money during the Christmas season. God Rest
Ye Merry Gentlemen continues to be enjoyed.
The lyrics to this simple carol are reputed to be
one of the oldest carols.
Good King Wenceslas!
The words to the carol "Good King
Wenceslas" were written by John Mason Neale
and published in 1853, the music originates in
Finland 300 years earlier. This Christmas carol
is unusual as there is no reference in the lyrics
to the nativity. Good King Wenceslas was the
king of Bohemia in the 10th century. Good King
Wenceslas was a Catholic and was martyred
following his assassination by his brother
Boleslaw and his supporters, his Saint's Day is
September 28th, and he is the Patron Saint of
the Czech Republic. St. Stephen's feast day was
celebrated on 26th December which is why this
song is sung as a Christmas carol.
Hark the Herald Angels Sing!
“Hark the herald angels sing” Christmas
Carol was written by Charles Wesley, brother of
John Wesley founder of the Methodist church,
in 1739. A sombre man, he requested slow and
solemn music for his lyrics and thus “Hark the
herald angels sing” was sung to a different tune
initially. Over a hundred years later Felix
Mendelssohn (1809-1847) composed a cantata
in 1840 to commemorate Johann Gutenberg's
invention of the printing press. English
musician William H. Cummings adapted
Mendelssohn’s music to fit the lyrics of “Hark
the herald angels sing” already written by
Wesley.
It Came Upon A Midnight Clear!
It Came Upon a Midnight Clear was written by
Edmund Hamilton Sears in 1849. The carol
started life as a poem written by its author who
was a minister living in Massachusetts at the
time. The music for It Came Upon A Midnight
Clear was composed by American musician
Richard Storrs Willis in 1859 who was inspired
by the words of the poem.
O Christmas Tr ee!
O Christmas Tree is a traditional
German Carol. The author of the lyrics are
unknown as is the composer of the lyrics. The
tradition of bringing a tree inside and decorating
it with candy, baubles and bells was started in
the nineteenth century and is immortalized in
the carol O Christmas Tree lyrics.
O Little Town of Bethlehem !
Rector Phillips Brooks (1835-1903) of
Philadelphia, wrote the words to O Little Town
of Bethlehem in 1868, following a pilgrimage to
the Holy Land. He was inspired by the view of
Bethlehem from the hills of Palestine especially
at night time hence the lyrics of O Little Town
of Bethlehem. His church organist Lewis
Redner (1831-1908) wrote the melody to O
Little Town of Bethlehem for the Sunday school
children's choir.
The First Noel !
The First Noel is unknown in origin but
is generally thought to be English dating back to
the sixteenth century. There is a misconception
that the First Noel was French and it is believed
that this is because of the French spelling of
Noel as opposed to the olde English Anglo-
Saxon spelling of the word as in Nowell. After
England was captured by the Normans
numerous words were adopted from the
Norman French language and Noel was re-spelt
as Nowell, early printed versions of this carol
use the Nowell spelling. The First Noel was first
published in 1833 when it appeared in
"Christmas Carols Ancient and Modern," a
collection of seasonal carols gathered by
William B. Sandys.

1. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
by Judy Garland. This was actually written
during WWII. It has been covered many times.
My favorite version is the Judy Garland version.
The original lines "until then we'll muddle
through somehow" were changed to "hang a
shining star upon the highest bow." This was a
sad song because during WWII, many people
were not coming home for Christmas. They
lightened it up a bit after the war.
2. Happy Holidays by Perry Como. I love this
song. It's so upbeat. It really puts you in the
holiday spirit.
3. White Christmas by Bing Crosby. Until
Elton John wrote "Goodbye England's Rose" in
honor of the late Princess Diana, this was the
best selling song ever. It was featured in two
films, both starring Bing Crosby. The first was
"Holiday Inn" the second was "White
Christmas." The song was so popular that it
called for a new film to be made featuring the
song.
4. The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole. No
one sang this song better than him. No one
really sang better than him. And this is an all
time classic.
5. The Hanukah Song by Adam Sandler. The
first time I heard this was on Saturday Night

Christmas stations. And I still laugh.
6. Santa Baby by Eartha Kitt. This again has
been covered many times, but nothing beats the
original.
7. My Christmas Wish by Barbra Streisand.
Mariah Carey did a cover, not nearly as good.
So did Celene Dion. But no one sings like
Barbra.
8. Blue Christmas by Elvis Presley. This
brings back childhood memories. When we
were setting up our Christmas decorations every
year, my dad would play the Elvis Christmas
collection. I loved this.
9. Happy Christmas by John Lennon and
Yoko Ono. I love John Lennon, so how can I
not love this song. This will be very appropriate
this year. It was written during the time of the
Vietnam War and the subtitle was "war is over if
you want it."
10. Rocking Around The Christmas Tree by
Brenda Lee. I love this song. It is featured in
the film "Home Alone." Again, many covers,
but Brenda's version is the best.
THE HIST ORY OF
SANTA CLAUS
The American version of the Santa
Claus figure received its inspiration and its
name from the Dutch legend of Sinter Klaas,
brought by settlers to New York in the 17th
century.
As early as 1773 the name appeared in
the American press as "St. A Claus," but it was
the popular author Washington Irving who gave
Americans their first detailed information about
the Dutch version of Saint Nicholas. In his
History of New York, published in 1809 under
the pseudonym Diedrich Knickerbocker, Irving
described the arrival of the saint on horseback
(unaccompanied by Black Peter) each Eve of
Saint Nicholas.
This Dutch-American Saint Nick
achieved his fully Americanized form in 1823 in
the poem A Visit From Saint Nicholas more
commonly known as The Night Before
Christmas by writer Clement Clarke Moore.
Moore included such details as the names of the
reindeer; Santa Claus's laughs, winks, and nods;
and the method by which Saint Nicholas,
referred to as an elf, returns up the chimney.
(Moore's phrase "lays his finger aside of his
nose" was drawn directly from Irving's 1809
description.)
The American image of Santa Claus was
further elaborated by illustrator Thomas Nast,
who depicted a rotund Santa for Christmas
issues of Harper's magazine from the 1860s to
the 1880s. Nast added such details as Santa's
workshop at the North Pole and Santa's list of
the good and bad children of the world. A
human-sized version of Santa Claus, rather than
the elf of Moore's poem, was depicted in a
series of illustrations for Coca-Cola
advertisements introduced in 1931. In modern
versions of the Santa Claus legend, only his toy-
shop workers are elves. Rudolph, the ninth
reindeer, with a red and shiny nose, was
invented in 1939 by an advertising writer for the
Montgomery Ward Company.
In looking for the historical roots of
Santa Claus, one must go very deep in the past.
One discovers that Santa Claus as we know him
is a combination of many different legends and
mythical creatures.
The basis for the Christian-era Santa
Claus is Bishop Nicholas of Smyrna (Izmir), in
what is now Turkey. Nicholas lived in the 4th
century A.D. He was very rich, generous, and
loving toward children. Often he gave joy to
poor children by throwing gifts in through their
windows.
The Orthodox Church later raised St.
Nicholas, miracle worker, to a position of great
esteem. It was in his honor that Russia's oldest
church, for example, was built. For its part, the
Roman Catholic Church honored Nicholas as
one who helped children and the poor. St.
Nicholas became the patron saint of children
and seafarers. His name day is December 6th.
In the Protestant areas of central and
northern Germany, St. Nicholas later became
known as der Weinachtsmann. In England he
came to be called Father Christmas. St.
Nicholas made his way to the United States with
Dutch immigrants, and began to be referred to
as Santa Claus.
In North American poetry and
illustrations, Santa Claus, in his white beard, red
jacket and pompom-topped cap, would sally
forth on the night before Christmas in his sleigh,
pulled by eight reindeer, and climb down
chimneys to leave his gifts in stockings children
set out on the fireplace's mantelpiece.
Children naturally wanted to know
where Santa Claus actually came from. Where
did he live when he wasn't delivering presents?
Those questions gave rise to the legend that
Santa Claus lived at the North Pole, where his
Christmas-gift workshop was also located.
In 1925, since grazing reindeer would
not be possible at the North Pole, newspapers
revealed that Santa Claus in fact lived in Finnish
Lapland. "Uncle Markus", Markus Rautio, who
compared the popular "Children's hour" on
Finnish public radio, revealed the great secret
for the first time in 1927: Santa Claus lives on
Lapland's Korvatunturi - "Ear Fell"
The fell, which is situated directly on
Finland's eastern frontier, somewhat resembles
a hare's ears - which are in fact Santa Claus's
ears, with which he listens to hear if the world's
children are being nice. Santa has the assistance
of a busy group of elves, who have quite their
own history in Scandinanvian legend.
Over the centuries, customs from
different parts of the Northern Hemisphere thus
came together and created the whole world's
Santa Claus - the ageless, timeless, deathless
white-bearded man who gives out gifts on
Christmas and always returns to Korvatunturi in
Finnish Lapland.
Since the 1950s, Santa has happily
sojourned at Napapiiri, near Rovaniemi, at
times other than Christmas, to meet children
and the young at heart. By 1985 his visits to
Napapiiri had become so regular that he
established his own Santa Claus Office there.
He comes there every day of the year to hear
what children want for Christmas and to talk
with children who have arrived from around the
world. Santa Claus Village is also the location
of Santa's main Post Office, which receives
children's letters from the four corners of the
world.

soldier on peacekeeping duty in Bosnia.

The following is his request.

"PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favour of

sending this to as many people as you can?
Christmas will be coming soon and some credit
is due to our service men and women for our
being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try
in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we
owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes,
living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for

You're all familiar with the Christmas
song, "The Twelve Days of Christmas" I think.
To most it's a delightful nonsense rhyme set to
music. But it had a quite serious purpose when
it was written.
It is a good deal more than just a
repetitious melody with pretty phrases and a list
of strange gifts.
Catholics in England during the period
1558 to 1829, when Parliament finally
emancipated Catholics in England, were
prohibited from ANY practice of their faith by
law - private OR public. It was a crime to BE a
Catholic.
"The Twelve Days of Christmas" was
written in England as one of the "catechism
songs" to help young Catholics learn the tenets
of their faith - a memory aid, when to be caught
with anything in *writing* indicating adherence
to the Catholic faith could not only get you
imprisoned, it could get you hanged, or
shortened by a head - or hanged, drawn and
quartered, a rather peculiar and ghastly
punishment I'm not aware was ever practiced
anywhere else. Hanging, drawing and
quartering involved hanging a person by the
neck until they had almost, but not quite,
suffocated to death; then the party was taken
down from the gallows, and disembowelled
while still alive; and while the entrails were still
lying on the street, where the executioners
stomped all over them, the victim was tied to
four large farm horses, and literally torn into
five parts - one to each limb and the remaining
torso.
The songs gifts are hidden meanings to
the teachings of the faith. The "true love"
mentioned in the song doesn't refer to an earthly
suitor, it refers to God Himself. The "me" who
receives the presents refers to every baptized
person. The partridge in a pear tree is Jesus
Christ, the Son of God. In the song, Christ is
symbolically presented as a mother partridge
which feigns injury to decoy predators from her
helpless nestlings, much in memory of the
expression of Christ's sadness over the fate of
Jerusalem: "Jerusalem! Jerusalem! How often
would I have sheltered thee under my wings, as
a hen does her chicks, but thou wouldst not have
it so..."

Jesus upon the Cross. In the song, Christ is
symbolically presented as a mother partridge
because she would feign injury to decoy a
predator away from her nestlings. She was even
willing to die for them.
The tree is the symbol of the fall of the
human race through the sin of Adam and Eve. It
is also the symbol of its redemption by Jesus
Christ on the tree of the Cross.

The infinite universe through which the
human race travels in the 21st century is truly a
wondrous mix of both ongoing creation and
instant destruction! One doesn't have to peer
through a NASA lens or observatory telescope
to easily witness this phenomenal mixture of

1- Jesus wasn’t born on December 25th.
That was the birthday of Nimrod whose

of Caesarea after Jesus returned from Egypt
when he was about eight years old. There are
fine manuscripts which talk about Jesus and
Joseph building the throne for Herod in the new
city of Nazareth. Jesus was well traveled by the
time he was eight.
3 - The stories of what the very young child
Jesus did in Egypt are amazing.
That is the place he met the thieves that
hung on each side of him at his crucifixion. One
of them was kind to him and the other wanted to
take his life as a child. In addition the child
Jesus healed one of the fragmented Pharaohs of
Egypt while he was there and lived for a time in
the palace where he was again given a great
quantity of gold for his efforts. Jesus received a
lot of gifts in his life which made his family
wealthy. In the Gospel of the Virgin Mary it
talks about the wealth of Jesus’ mother Mary
and her family who were used to giving food to
crowds of poor people. We have changed the
story over the years in order to control the
movements of Jesus so that He wasn’t shared
with other faiths. You can control a poor man,
but it is very hard to control the history of an
affluent person who traveled and spoke to men
of faith all over the place.
4 - The story of the actual birth of Jesus is
amazing. He was born in a cave.
The cave is still one of the holiest
shrines in Israel. Jesus wasn’t born in a barn.

participated. We have that story in the ancient
texts written by Thomas. Also we have the
story of Salome the midwife who helped Mary
with the birth of Jesus. She had a withered hand
and had a miraculous experience at the birth of
Jesus. This is the real story we should tell for
Christmas.

which is the first part of April.

In the human experience, giants are
literally the "elephants in the room". When our
research first began on this paradigm, we had
little knowledge of how extensive the evidence
of their existence was. We now have a
comprehensive database consisting of over 200
historical descriptions; over half from the
United States and the U.K. history, alone. And,
our unpublished files contain enough
information to more than triple the current data
we now have online. Were one to undertake a
thorough study of giants and record all in detail,
it would certainly be a life's work.
The lack of the presence of giants in
orthodox history, academia, and
anthropological studies is appalling in light of
the true historical records from every part of the
globe. Even more mysterious is the seemingly
unanimous decisions by the keepers of the
world's museums and archeological treasures to
keep the physical evidence of giants hidden
from public view. Only a smattering of the
evidence is available in obscure locations.
Thousands of skeletons and hundreds of
historical reports are ignored.
The accepted knowledge among the
world's peoples is that giants are the creatures of
myth and folklore, relegated to children's fairy
tales and B grade horror movies, an it is almost
a crime not to include a giant in any fantasy film
or video game. The reality is that giants were
present throughout our history from ancient
biblical accounts and historical Roman military
campaigns to the relatively modern genocide of
the natives of North America.
A Wealth of Evidence
Giants appear in the legends of
Australia, Bavaria, Belgium, Chad, Chile,
China, England, France, Germany, Greece,
Holland, India , Italy, Kazakhstan, Laos,
Morocco, the Netherlands, Nova Scotia,
Pakistan, Patagonia, the Philippines, Poland,
Rwanda, Russia, Scotland, Sicily, Spain,
Sweden, Switzerland, Terra del Fuego, Turkey,
the United Sates, Wales, Zanzibar, and the
ancient Incan, Toltec, and Nordic cultures, just
to name a few.
Giants are everywhere; in our religions,
our history, our literature, and our folklore.
Legends of extraordinarily tall humans are
found in almost every culture and, on almost
every continent. But, they are always viewed as
mythical beings. Jack, the Beanstalk kid, Paul
Bunyan and his giant ox, and the travels of
Gulliver are familiar children’s stories in
English literature. There are festivals dedicated
to giants, they are represented in paintings,
statues, and rock art, and even the Catholic
Church has its own giant saint; St. Christopher,
who was so tall, he made a living as a human
ferry, transporting people on his shoulders
across deep rivers.
St. Christopher was described by
Jacques de Voragine in "The Golden Legend":
"He was of gigantic stature, had a terrifying

According to this ancient account, St.
Christopher stood from 12 to 18 feet tall, a fact
that was erased from church history. While
Western icons don't picture St. Christopher as a
giant, those of the Eastern churches do. His
story, in brief, is that his name was originally
Offro, or Offerus, and he was a giant of great
strength, but of a sensitive nature, traveling in
search of the greatest God. He was possibly of
royal birth. His search eventually led him to a
strange occupation as a human ferry, hiring out
to literally carry people across rivers too deep
for a normal human to cross. The legend has it
that Jesus was one of his customers. Jesus
supposedly blessed him, and told him that he
had carried all the sins of the world on his
shoulders. After the giant had carried Jesus
across a river he asked St. Christopher to plant
his great walking-staff in the ground. At once, a
wonderful tree miraculously sprang up."
Giants in the Bible
The Bible, alone, of all the ancient
writings describing giants, has scores of
descriptions of giant beings. Even the recently
discovered Dead Sea Scrolls contains a book
called "The Book of Giants". The giant, Goliath,
was only one of many giants the Bible speaks of
and, owing to the "best seller in history” status
of the Bible, he is the most famous. The 4th
verse of Genesis 6 begins with: "There were
giants in the earth in those days". The word
"giants" in Genesis 6:4 is translated from the
Hebrew word nphiyl, pronounced nef-eel';
properly, a feller, i.e. a bully or tyrant. Many
have been mistakenly led to believe that the
word "nphiyl", commonly thought to be the
word Nephilim, meant the "fallen ones", or
"those who fell from heaven or the sky". This
mistake has been promoted by the proponents of
theories created by Zachariah Sitchin for
decades, but has no basis in fact, as a simple
study of the word in any Hebrew lexicon,
(dictionary), will verify.
If there is any doubt about the true
meaning of this word, one only needs to go to
very next instance in the Bible where the word
'nphiyl' is used to get a clear meaning. Moses
describes a race of giants called the Amalekites
in the land of Canaan: "And there we saw the
giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the
giants: and we were in our own sight as
grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight."
(Numbers 13 33) Or, the next instance in order:
"For only Og king of Bashan remained of the
remnant of giants; behold his bedstead was a
bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the
children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length
thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after
the cubit of a man." (Deuteronomy 3:11)
Converted into modern terms, this verse is
stating that the bed of King Og is 14 feet long
and 6 feet wide, making his estimated height to
be 12 feet, (3.8 meters), or taller.
Some Notable Examples Worldwide
* One of the most fascinating cases of
giants in U. S. history are the Smithsonian
Giants. During the genocidal conquest of the
indigenous peoples of North America, the
United States Calvary and hired mercenaries
encountered giants living among the tribes, and
engaged in direct combat with them. The
mindset used to justify the wholesale slaughter
of many, and forced relocation of the rest of
these tribes, was that they were sub-human;
their darker skin being a key to this gross
misconception. The giants they encountered
and killed were red-headed with white skin.
Fearing a backlash from the American people
for killing whites, giants or not, the government
ordered that all bodies of these giants be
retrieved and shipped to the Smithsonian
Institute, to hide the damaging evidence. We
have no idea if those bodies were ever disposed
of, but there is sufficient evidence available
from the Smithsonian officials and
documentation of the time to believe this

* Bones of giants have been uncovered
in the United States in New York, California,
Ohio, Tennessee, Illinois, Virginia, West
Virginia, Wisconsin, Missouri, Nevada, Indiana,
Minnesota, North Dakota, Pennsylvania,
Arizona, New Mexico, and Kentucky from as
early as 1792 to as late as 1965.
* The legends of early North American
tribes are rich with stories of giants, including
the Sioux, who told about giants that ran down
the buffalo, and the Algonquin stories of giant,
bearded men that first occupied their native
lands. Individuals, from Columbus to Wild Bill
Cody, gave testimony to their existence in North
America. Reports of giant skeletons up to 25
and more feet being discovered were reported in
early history of the occupation of the United
States.
* Early English history describes, and even
names, giants. Miss Marion, the 8-foot, six-inch
Queen of the Amazons, the 8-foot, four-inch
George Auger, of the 1903 Barnum and Bailey
Circus, Charles Byrne the towering eight-foot-
two-inch giant, who gained fame in the late
1700s in London, are just three such giants.
Bones of giants up to 13 feet and taller have
been uncovered all over the English landscape.
* In China, archaeologists have found
some of the earliest skeletal remains of giants,
as much as fifteen feet tall. Melchior Nunnez, in
his letters from India, vouches for the fact that
some five hundred giants were used as archers
to guard the gates of Peking. George Hakewill,
in his Apologie, written in 1627, issued a similar
report.
* A skeleton found in 1692 in a tomb
near Angers, France, measured seventeen-feet,
four-inches. And, in his "De Gigantibus", Joh
Cassanio speaks of a giant in Bordeaux, France
that stood so tall, a man of ordinary size could
walk between his legs. He states that Francis I
of France (1494-1547) enlisted him as one of
his guards.
* The Greeks had more than their share
of giants in their legends, including Agrius,
Alcyoneus, Aloeus, Alpus, Antaeüs, Arges,
Atlas, Brontes, Chthonius, Clytius, Coeus,
Crius, Cronus, Damasen, Enceladus, Ephialtes,
Epimetheus, Eurytus, Gegenees, Gration,
Hippolytus, Hopladamus, Hyperion, Lapetus,
Metis, Mimas, Mnemosyne, Oceanus, Orion,
Orius, Otus, Pallas, Peloreus, Phoebe,
Polybotes, Porphyrion, Prometheus, Rhea,

hundred double-edged axes weighing over
seventeen pounds, 20 times as heavy as would
be convenient for modern man. To use these
tools would require the hands of a size
appropriate to a giant with a stature of at least
13 feet.

* In 1812, an Italian journal reported
that in the valley of Mazara, in Sicily, the
skeleton of a man ten-feet and three-inches in
length was dug up in the same area that several
other human skeletons of gigantic size had
previously been found.
* In 1950, in the Euphrates Valley of
Southeast Turkey, many tombs containing
giants 14 to 16 feet tall were unearthed.
The Giants of the Breitenwinner Cave - A
Potential Breakthrough
In our initial research to compile our
database of giants in human history, we dug
deeply to find as many references to giants as
possible. In 2003, we discovered an obscure
document allegedly written by one Berthold
Buchner in 1563, which spoke of giant bones
found in Breitenwinner Cave in the Bavarian
region of Germany. In the opening of that
document, Buchner, speaking of the exploration
of the cave, stated: "The marvels they saw there
have been written down by Berthold Buchner.
The ignorant will not believe this story, the
experienced ones will not think it possible. But
we have seen it with our own eyes, and it is the
truth." Further, in the 1563 recounting of his
experience, Buchner goes on by documenting
the following: "When we crept in we found so
many bones that the first of us had to pile them
up in one place to make room for us to enter.
The bones were very large as if from giants."
And, "We came to a narrow vault where we
found a skull bigger than we had ever seen

before. "
Unfortunately, we were dealing with a
long-forgotten incident that occurred almost
500 years ago. We could only find one reference
to this cave and the giant bones, at the time, and
wrote the following in our conclusion to that
document: "The 16th Century narrative is self
explanatory. The cave now lies in ruin, having
been looted over the centuries, of all the ancient
treasures it once held." It was our belief that this
treasure of giant evidence, including the bones
was forever lost to history and the human
experience.
Then, as fate would have it, we received
an email on November 8, 2007, which began:
"You wrote of Breitenwinner Cave in Bavaria. I
just got out of the Army and was stationed at the
Joint Multinational Training Center, now known
as the Joint Multinational Readiness Center, a
NATO training facility which now surrounds
this cave." The individual went on to say: "Two
friends also stationed here and myself
accidentally stumbled across this cave which
was located near what we call Checkpoint 35,
those ever stationed here will know where that
is. We had a video camera with us and found
thousands of bones that were of huge
proportion." We viewed the video, immediately
made contact with the person making this claim,
established his credibility, and contacted our
media sources. Within 24 hours, the man who
had explored Breitenwinner Cave, was
interviewed on a major radio show.
Danny, (last name held by request), is a
former combat photographer, with over 7 years
in service. He was forthcoming and seemed
only interested in getting the story out. His
concern was focused on what he believes to be
the travesty of a mass burial site going
unnoticed and treated with absolutely no
respect. The cave is now located in a "live fire
zone", being used for bombing practice for
NATO training exercises. Danny, in fact, knew
nothing about the history of the Breitenwinner
Cave until long after he had explored the cave
and done research on it. Due to this, he was not
looking for any evidence of giants when he
explored it and took a video of that exploration.
At the time of this writing,
anthropologists, universities, non-governmental
organizations, and researchers in the field are
coming together to attempt an official
examination of the Breitenwinner Cave. If
successful, such an exploration could blow the
lid off the cover-up of this amazing paradigm
and add a new dimension to the human reality.
The readers following this paradigm are asked
to contact any individuals that may be of help in
exposing this phenomenon. The evidence of
giants in world history is overwhelming and the
time has come to reveal this fact to the world.

2007 was a year notable for further
evidence about global warming, terrestrial and
extraterrestrial discovery and scientific
breakthroughs. VOA's Paul Sisco takes a look
back at some of the top science stories of the
year.
Global warming tops our list of science
stories in 2007. Scientists say there is new
evidence that the polar ice caps are melting at a
faster pace. The Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change says it is 90 percent certain that
human activity is linked to rising temperatures.
Panel Chairman Rajendra Pachauri
explains, "...what you have is solid scientific
evidence."
Pachauri's U.N. panel shared the 2007
Nobel Peace Prize with former U.S. Vice
President Al Gore, who said, "I'm going to
speak an inconvenient truth, My own country is
principally responsible for obstructing progress
here in Bali. We all know that."
Gore's Academy Awarding winning
film, An Inconvenient Truth, documents the
effects of climate change.
In other news, scientists uncovered a
previously unknown, human settlement around
Stonehenge, announced a new theory on the
building of the Pyramids, and put King Tut on
public display for the first time in 3,000 years.
Scientists also had a remarkable
discovery in Kenya - a 10 million year old jaw
bone that may link mankind to the great apes.
And in the fossil of a T-Rex, American
researchers decoded soft tissue proteins linking
the monstrous reptile to birds.
Japan and China jumped into the space
race in 2007, both launching their first lunar
probes. NASA shared 3-D (three dimensional)
images of the sun, and with three shuttle
missions, stepped up construction of the
International Space Station. Mechanical
problems halted a fourth shuttle launch in
December, but station construction resumes in
2008.
190 nations join hands
to fight global warming
Over 190 countries agreed at the UN-led
talks in Bali on Saturday to launch negotiations
on a new pact to fight global warming after a
reversal by the United States allowed a historic
breakthrough.
Head of the US delegation Paula
Dobriansky said that 20 hours after the
scheduled end of the conference, her country
did not want to stand in the way of agreement.
The Bali meeting approved a "roadmap" for two
years of talks to adopt a new treaty to succeed
the Kyoto Protocol beyond 2009, widening it to
the US and developing nations such as China
and India.
Under the deal, a successor pact will be
agreed on at a meeting in Copenhagen in late
2009. A sticking point was whether the
guidelines should mention scientific evidence
about the need for emission cuts of 25 to 40 per
cent below 1990 levels by 2020.
India and China had also raised last-minute
objections to the accord, which would for the
first time have required developing countries to
accept emissions reduction commitments.
India wanted countries to set their own
targets, allowing it to limit the impact of the
regulations on its economy. China was seeking
new consultations outside of the plenary
session.
The controversy centred on whether
developing country emissions-reduction
measures should be called "actions" or
"contributions".
Munir Akram, who leads the main
negotiating bloc of developing countries, the
G77, said developing countries had come under
"strong pressure and even faced threats" of trade
sanctions to also accept mandatory emission
reduction commitments that he called "unfair
and unjust".
Developing countries are not required to
accept emission reduction commitments under
the Kyoto Protocol, and they say that any such
commitments would cramp economic growth.
In this context, the G77 has been resisting
concerted efforts from some developed
countries to press for a comprehensive new
agreement.
Science and Technology Minister Kapil
Sibal reiterated the unity of the G77 on this
position, saying, "We don't want to come out of
here diluting the content of the convention and
the protocol...that is at the centre of our
position."
Laying out the Indian position, Foreign
Secretary Shivshankar Menon said in New
Delhi earlier in the week that while the major
responsibility for the accumulation of
greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere lies with
the developed countries, its adverse affects are
felt most severely by developing countries like
India.
"When we speak of 'shared
responsibility', it must include the international
community's shared responsibility to ensure the
right to development of the developing
countries. Development is the best form of
adaptation to climate change," Menon added.
The conference was scheduled to end
Friday, but wrangling over targets for cutting
world greenhouse emissions continued until
well into the night before the agreement was
reached. While the European Union, supported
by most developing nations, was aggressively
pushing for the 25 to 40 per cent target range to
be included in the text, it was being opposed by
the US, Canada, Japan and Australia, which say
any mention of numbers will prejudge the
negotiations.
In an attempt to break the deadlock, the
conference president, Indonesian Environment
Minister Rachmat Witoelar, proposed revised
language dropping the numbers but still
reaffirming that emissions should be reduced at
least by half by 2050.
The Kyoto Protocol, which requires 36
industrial nations to cut greenhouse gas
emissions by five per cent below 1990 levels, is
to end in 2012. The US is the only rich nation,
which has not ratified the protocol.
Scientists Warn about
Rapid Arctic Melt Due to
Global Warming
The Arctic ice is threatening to become
open water in an extremely short time due to
global warming, which this year has passed an
ominous “tipping point,” scientists reported.
“The Arctic is screaming,” said Mark
Serreze, senior scientist at the government’s
snow and ice data center in Boulder, Colo.
Moreover, NASA climate scientist Jay
Zwally predicted that the Arctic Ocean would
be “nearly ice-free” by the end of summer 2012,
which is much faster than what other specialists
predicted last year, when they said the Arctic
sea was melting so rapidly that it could
disappear by the summer of 2040.
The warnings were made public at the
American Geophysical Union’s annual meeting
in San Francisco, one of the largest scientific
conferences in the world. The data about
Arctic’s melting became worrisome when, for
the first time in recorded history, ships were
able to pass through an ice-free Northwest
Passage in the Canadian Arctic for five weeks in
August and September, officials of the World
Meteorological Organization said.
In September, the ice pack was 23
percent smaller than anytime since
measurements began, with 1.6 million square
kilometers more open water than in the previous
record melt of 2005, scientist warned. Both
water and air temperatures have registered
extremely high levels in the past five years.
"We have a consistent picture that we've
really moved into record territory in the past
four or five years," said John D. Walsh,
Professor of Global Climate Change at the
International Arctic Research Center for the
University of Alaska, Fairbanks.
Michel Jarraud, secretary general of the
UN agency, warned that recent core samples
from polar glaciers and data from recording
stations around the world reveal that the world
has passed through its warmest period in the
past 1,000 and 3,000 years. Such warming
appears to lead to climate disasters such as
recent cyclones in Bangladesh and Oman,
wildfires in southern Europe and flooding in
Africa and Mexico.
Scientists blamed the exceeding global
warming on carbon emission and other gases
that trap heat in the atmosphere. They warned
that there was a high amount of carbon in
Earth’s atmosphere to ensure that sea levels
would rise several feet in coming decades and
ice would totally vanish from the North Pole
during summer time.
People must cut current carbon
emissions but also remove some carbon that has
collected in the atmosphere since the Industrial
Revolution, scientists said Thursday.
They also suggested that the only way to
prevent the existing ice from melting was
“considerable and persistent atmospheric
cooling, but with the warming trend so high,
everything is working in concert toward a bluer
or totally blue Arctic Ocean," said Josefino
Comiso, a senior researcher at NASA's Goddard
Space Flight Center.

During the Bali climate talks Thursday,
he also said that the recent data revealed that
climate change would affect the current
generation as well, not only the future
generations.
"It is up to us in this generation to see
clearly and vividly exactly what is going on,"
urged the Nobel Peace Prize winner and climate
campaigner.

walruses ar e killed in
stampedes; global
warming is blamed
ANCHORAGE, Alaska: Thousands of
Pacific walruses above the Arctic Circle were
killed in stampedes earlier this year after the
disappearance of sea ice caused them to crown
onto the shoreline in extraordinary numbers,
deaths some scientists see as another alarming
consequence of global warming.
The deaths took place during the late
summer and fall on the Russian side of the
Bering Strait, which separates Alaska from
Russia.
"It was a pretty sobering year — tough
on walruses," said Joel Garlach-Miller, a walrus
expert for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Unlike seals, walruses cannot swim
indefinitely. The big, tusked mammals typically
clamber onto the sea ice to rest, or haul
themselves onto land for just a few weeks at a
time.
But ice disappeared in the Chukchi Sea
this year because of warm summer weather,
ocean currents and persistent eastern winds,
Garlach-Miller said.
As a result, walruses came ashore earlier
and stayed longer, congregating in extremely
high numbers, with herds as big as 40,000 at
Point Shmidt, a spot that had not been used by
walruses as a "haulout" place for a century,
scientists said.
Walruses are vulnerable to stampedes
when they gather in such large numbers. The
appearance of a polar bear, a hunter or a low-
flying airplane can send them rushing to the
water.
Sure enough, scientists received reports
of hundreds and hundreds of walruses that died
of internal injuries suffered in stampedes. Many
of the youngest and weakest animals, mostly
calves born in the spring, were crushed.
Biologist Anatoly Kochnev of Russia's
Pacific Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography
estimated 3,000 to 4,000 walruses out of
population of perhaps 200,000 died, or two or
three times the usual number on shoreline
haulouts.
He said the animals only started
appearing on shore for extended periods in the
late 1990s, after the sea ice receded.
"The reason is the global warming,"
Kochnev said.
The reports match predictions of what
might happen to walruses if the ice receded, said
wildlife biologist Tony Fischbach of the U.S.
Geological Survey.
"We were surprised that this was
happening so soon, and we were surprised at the
magnitude of the report," he said.
Scientists said the death of so many
walruses — particularly calves — is alarming in
itself. But if the trend continues, and walruses
no longer have summer sea ice from which to
dive for clams and snails, they could strip
coastal areas of food, and that could reduce their
numbers even further.
No large-scale walrus die-offs were seen
in Alaska during the same period, apparently
because the animals congregated in smaller
groups on the American side of the Bering
Strait, with the biggest known herd at about
2,500.
Indigenous people
describe real perils of
global warming

NUSA DUA, INDONESIA — Indigenous
people, including Canadian Inuit and Indian
leaders, are emerging as some of the top stars of
the Bali climate-change conference.
From the Arctic to the South Pacific
islands, indigenous people said they are among
the first to suffer the worst effects of global
warming.
They drew connections between the
planet's north and south, describing how the
melting glaciers in the Arctic are jeopardizing
the existence of small island states in the
Pacific, and how severe ocean storms are
imperilling people in both regions.
When the indigenous leaders spoke at a
side event at the Bali conference this week, the
room was packed with a standing-room-only
audience of environmentalists and others. The
leaders also spoke at other conference events,
giving accounts of how global warming is
threatening their traditional ways of life.
Arctic aboriginal villages are facing erosion,
fragile ice is endangering their hunters, caribou
herds are at risk from shifting weather and
severe storms are becoming more frequent in
the north and the south, they said.
"Some Inuit have already made changes
to the traditional times of the year which they
travel on the land," said Violet Ford, a Canadian
Inuit leader from northern Labrador and a vice-
president of the Inuit Circumpolar Council.
"Some find themselves collecting their
winter wood and other supplies in the spring
when they only used to do so in the fall. Why?
Because the fall freeze-up is later and more
dangerous."
The shifting climate is interfering with
ancient hunting patterns, Ms. Ford said in an
interview. "We can't predict the weather any
more, so it's very difficult to plan our hunting. It
puts a lot of stress and fear into our
communities."
Similar threats are faced by the
aboriginal people of the Western Arctic, who
depend on caribou as their main source of food.
"Over the last few years, the caribou have been
very unpredictable," said Cindy Dickson, a
member of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation in
a remote corner of the Yukon.
"Their migration routes are all over the
map," she said. "It has led our people to go up
river, down river, sometimes hundreds of miles,
to look for the increasingly elusive herd."
Aboriginal leaders were not consulted
when the Kyoto treaty was negotiated in 1997,
but they are insisting that they must be
consulted in future negotiations on how to cope
with global warming.
"We bring a unique knowledge to these
discussions," said Patricia Cochran, an Alaskan
Inuit who is chairwoman of the Inuit
Circumpolar Council. "We have to make sure
that our voice is heard."
Because of global warming, Inuit people
no longer feel safe travelling on ice where they
travelled for centuries, and some Inuit
communities are sliding into the sea, forcing
their relocation to new sites, Ms. Cochran said.
"It's a very frightening thing for all of us.
It's the loss of our culture and livelihood. How
can we remain intact as aboriginal people?"
Dave Porter, a Kaska Dene leader from
northern British Columbia, came to Bali to tell
delegates that his people are under massive
pressure from a climate-induced infestation of
the mountain pine beetle.
"We are faced with our greatest threat
ever," he said in a speech to a conference side
event. "The area of dead trees in British
Columbia is the size of Portugal or South
Korea. It rivals the destruction of the Amazon
and Indonesian rain forests. More than 100 First
Nations communities are directly impacted. If
the epidemic eats its way across Canada, the
impacted communities could be in the
thousands."
Because winters are not cold enough to
kill the beetle infestation, millions of hectares of
pine trees have died, Mr. Porter said.
"It dwarfs any other insect epidemic
ever seen before in Canada. The interior of
British Columbia is now filled with immense
regions of dead and dying forests, creating a
massive tinderbox just waiting for a spark to
literally set it ablaze. Left unchecked, this
devastation could spread through Canada's
boreal forests from coast to coast, a distance of
nearly 9,000 kilometres."
For centuries, aboriginal people were
able to adapt to the environment, he said. But
they have never faced anything like the current
threat. "Now in a very short period of time, the
industrial society has put us at risk."

UNION AND THE
LARGER PLAN

In order to bring about a North
American Union (NAU), the public first has to
be conditioned to think of themselves as North
Americans. In that regard, Thomas Donohue
(president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of
Commerce) on June 16, 2006 remarked that "for
CEOs, North America is already a single
market, and business decisions are no longer
made with a Mexico strategy---or a Canada
strategy---but, rather, with a North American
strategy....I think it's pretty clear now that it no
longer makes sense to talk about U.S.
competitiveness and Mexican competitiveness--
-or, for that matter, about the competitiveness of
Canada. We are all in this together---we, as
North Americans."
Also relevant to this process is the
publication of NORTH AMERICAN
INTEGRATION MONITOR since 2002 by the
Center for Strategic and International Studies
(CSIS). Very soon, CSIS also will publish (and
has agreed to send me) their final document on
their "North American Future 2025 Project."
The Project has "an emphasis on regional
integration," and the year 2025 A.D. was
selected "on the basis of the data presently
available on overall global projections." Seven
closed-door roundtable sessions have been
looking at the methodology of global and North
American projections, as well as labor mobility,
energy, the environment, security,
competitiveness, and border infrastructure and
logistics.
Zbigniew Brzezinski has been a CSIS
counselor, and at Mikhail Gorbachev's first
State of the World Forum in 1995, Brzezinski
revealed: "We cannot leap into world
government through one quick step....The
precondition for eventual and genuine
globalization is progressive regionalization
because by that we move toward larger, more
stable, more cooperative units." This is why the
CSIS Project has "an emphasis on regional
integration." (Brzezinski also described the
regions that would be formed, that Israel and the
Palestinians would be part of a Middle Eastern
region, how Communist China would be
brought into an Asian region, and that Iran
would be part of a Central Asian region which
would have important oil and gas pipelines
constructed.)
At this point, it is worth remembering
that in Stalin's January 1913 address in Vienna,
he advocated national loyalties becoming
subservient to regions. And 3 years later, Lenin
in 1916 proclaimed: "The aim of socialism is
not only to abolish the present division of
mankind into smaller states and all-national
isolation, not only to bring the nations closer to
each other, but also to merge them."
You may recall that in Brzezinski's
BETWEEN TWO AGES (1970), he praised
Marxism, and he claimed that "the nation-state
is gradually yielding its sovereignty." One
aspect of American sovereignty that is being
yielded is ownership of American companies by
Americans. In the first 9 months of 2007, 69
companies in New England alone have been
sold to foreign buyers. Nationally, the French
company Alcatel bought Lucent Technologies
in the U.S. last year, and in September 2007
announced it will be cutting thousands of jobs.
Relevant to this, Alan Tonelson
(research fellow at the U.S. Business and
Industry Council) said foreign companies are
"acquiring control over the most dynamic
pieces of the American economy, and they're
acquiring control over America's future." Also
relevant to this was the assessment by Donald
Klepper-Smith (chief economist at DataCore
Partners) regarding decisions made overseas
and how they would effect American workers.
He opined: "It raises some red flags and some
real questions about our independence."
Part of the conditioning process to cause
Americans to accept a NAU is the role of past
and present government officials explaining the
alleged economic benefits of such a union. For
example, Harry Roegner in a letter titled "An
economic union would be beneficial" in THE
GREENVILLE (South Carolina) SUN (October
15, 2007) pointed out the large oil reserves of
both Canada and Mexico that would be useful to
the U.S., as well as Mexico's excess manpower
who, as immigrants, would help support U.S.
and Canadian economic growth. Roegner was
an adviser on foreign trade issues to the U.S.
Department of Commerce from 1984 to 1994,
and in his letter said: "A North American
economic union would provide the free flow of
capital and labor across national borders needed
to address many of the (aforementioned)
imbalances."
Often regional economic integration
into some type of union is argued on the basis of
free trade. However, John Fonte (who had an
office next to mine at the U.S. Department of
Education) of the Hudson Institute has
explained that the concept of regional economic
arrangements or trading blocs actually is
contrary to free trade to an extent. For example,
in a NAU, there would be trading arrangements
among the 3 nations which would limit the
ability of the U.S. to trade freely with nations
outside the NAU trading bloc.
But hasn't President Bush recently said
all this talk about a NAU is nonsense? On
August 21, 2007 at the concluding press
conference for the Security and Prosperity
Partnership (SPP) in Montebello, Quebec, Fox
News reporter Bret Baier asked if the SPP is a
prelude to a NAU similar to the European
Union (EU), and if there are plans to build some
kind of superhighway connecting all 3
countries. President Bush replied: "If you've
been in politics as long as I have, you get used
to that kind of technique where you lay out a
conspiracy and then force people to try to prove
it doesn't exist."
The truth, of course, is that the U.S.,
Canada and Mexico are being connected by 4
Trade Corridors. On November 20, 2007, Lt.
Governor John Harvard of Manitoba delivered a
"Speech From The Throne," in which he
revealed: "Manitoba has been working with the
Canadian government and state governments in
the U.S. to protect and enhance our access to
key trade markets. In response to U.S. border
and security measures, Manitoba will begin

offering an enhanced driver's license as an
affordable and secure form of identification for
travelers. The new license will be available in
the Fall of 2008. Manitoba is also taking a major
role in the development of a Mid-Continent
Trade Corridor, connecting our northern Port of
Churchill with trade markets throughout the
central United States and Mexico. To advance
the concept, an alliance has been built with
business leaders and state and city governments
spanning the entire length of the Corridor. When
fully developed, the trade route will incorporate
an 'in-land port' in Winnipeg with pre-clearance
for international shipping."
