October 2013
Susan ParrettAs we hit the last quarter of the year, the days seem to fly by faster and faster asour calendars full up with fun events for the coming weeks. At GCDA we certainlyhave a full calendar. Our next event is the Susan Grogan’s watercolor seminar on October 5th.It promises to be a great experience! At our October meeting we’ll be working on our annual service project, tied fleece blanketsfor Little Brothers of the Elderly. The blankets are beautiful, fun to make and much appreciated.Hopefully, a large group will be able to make it to the meeting so that we can get them all fin-ished. Peggy Hermes and Mary Ann Slizewski have a huge pile of fleece cut and ready to go.The following weekend is the Preview Party for next year’s painting retreat. The party is al-ways an anticipated social event and a chance to see the actual projects that will be taught atRetreat--so much better than a photo. And you can make your reservation and schedule yourclasses. At our September meeting, our Hospitality Committee members decided they are ready for abreak. They have done a great job!! But now we need 3-4 new people to take their place. Thisis one committee that doesn’t require a lot of time outside of meetings, so might be a good op-portunity for someone with limited time.Looking forward to November, we have elections at our meeting. Be sure to keep the date
open; we need everybody there to vote. This year, the positions up for election are Secretary
and VP Programs. As always, we need to elect a Nominating Committee, too.Gayle has agreed to run for Secretary, but we still need a volunteer for VP Programs. Sandiehas all of the after meeting classes for 2014 scheduled, so only seminars need to be scheduled. We all love to paint--that’s why GCDA exists--so this is a very essential position. Think serious-ly about volunteering! We need you! If you are interested in running for any position, pleasecontact Carole Arend or one of the other members of the Nominating Committee.Wow, that was a lot! Remember, GCDA is our organization and will only be as good as wemake it. Step forward & offer to help!Susan Parrett

Hi Ladies,You will all be happy to hear that the "v" on my keyboard is fixed. Well, maybe you won't be happy, andmaybe you don't really care, but for me it is a very happy moment. No more uncontrollable urges to smashmy keyboard to death. It's the little things in life ya know?I would like to thank Peggy Hermes for teaching her glass painting project at the September meet-ing. [photos below.] It was wonderful, and Peggy did a great job. I have already purchased a completeset of wine glasses to paint for Christmas gifts, I am hooked! Like I need another thing to be "hooked"on. On to October, service project time ladies. Please try to attend this meeting to help us make blanketsand to get your credit for participating in a service project. I will be teaching after the November meeting, please see attached registration form. This is a simple, fun project that I guarantee you will take home fin-ished. It would also be a great project for someone who has never painted before, so if you know of thatsomeone, bring them along! Last, but not least, will be our Christmas Party in December, a great way toend yet another year. This will be it for me as my term is over, and we will need someone else to step upand take the reigns of VP Programs. All of the after meeting teachers for 2014 are lined up and ready togo. Keep that in mind, as it is one less thing you will have to worry about for the first year.Hope to see you all at the October meeting. In the meantime, be happy and be paintin'! Sandie
