Project #2: Listening Across Difference For many of you, a central concern that arose when you completed the first project was how to incorporate a piece of creative nonfiction with a topic in which you have had limited or no experiencemass incarceration. Yet each of you found a way into this issue and produced compelling explorations that weaved together your story with Alexanders work. The Listening Across Difference project asks you begin a dialogue across campusesfrom the SU campus to the Education Justice Project. It asks you to write an essay in which you reflect on the writings that we received from students in the Education Justice Project with your own readings on mass incarceration. You should write this essay for the SU publication Intertext. Your audience will be other SU students and also incarcerated students with the Education Justice Project. Your essay should be 7-10 pages long and should have 1) a strong introduction and conclusion. 2) a strong engagement with the course readings on mass incarceration and 3) and most importantly, a careful (and sensitive) reading of the students writings. You will receive a letter grade for this assignment (20% of your course grade) based on the extent to which you meet these requirements, which includes a response to EJP students essays, a complete draft, and participation in the review process. Deadlines: Tuesday, October 22: a 3-page response to student essays. Tuesday, October 29: a complete draft of the assignment Tuesday, November 5: assignment due
