Middle States Regional Programming Proposal

 2
2009-2010 Middle States Regional Programs
One region, one dream, one team, one family.
Every two years, Phi Theta Kappa chooses an Honors Study topic that they feel addresses an important issue in
today’s
society. Then, Phi Theta Kappa encourages its members to scholastically explore the topic, craft actionplans to service the problems that are identified, and foster leadership development. By doing this, Phi ThetaKappa makes a significant impact on society, both intellectually and physically. The 2009-2010 Middle States Regional Officer Team wishes to reflect what Headquarters does, but on a regionalscale. Our team has decided to focus on one particular issue that is an important element of the Paradox of Affluence:
the relationship between society and the environment, and how that relationship comes to affect quality of life
(the purest form of affluence).
Concentrating on one issue related to the Paradox of Affluence has many advantages.

First
, as a region we will be able to make a considerable wide-ranging contribution toward theexploration of the Honors Study Topic that is regionally personalized.

Second
, setting a common goal for every chapter in the region to work toward will bring regionalchapters and members closer together, improving and enhancing Fellowship.

Finally
, having this common goal directly based on Scholarship will serve as a reminder that we are anHonors Society. The Middle States Regional Officer Team has developed a set of objectives with an aim to
emphasize
thehallmarks of the society,
encourage
chapter participation,
establish
a sustainable and well-known Honors inAction program, and
ensure
regional and international program requirements are in sync with one another. While developing our regional programming the team used these objectives as a guide. If there was a part of aproposed project that we were considering, we would refer back to the four objectives and see which elementthat part was designed to address, and thought out whether or not it was dispensable or could be reworkedmore intelligently.
