I have been documenting the condition of young Appu in July, August and September. During this period I observed that Appu is being kept under bad living conditions and the capacity of the staff who are involved in training him is also questionable. Appu is also under severe stress when I last visited and has been losing weight drastically.

July 2013You are already aware that in regions where there are no elephants are present any such incident would create more panicamong people than regions where there is regular human-elephant conflict. We believe that this case in Rajnandgaondistrict is also similar in nature. i.e. capturing an elephant which does not have any history of conflict when there is noeffort taken in solving wide spread human-elephant conflict across Chhattisgarh which is resulting in massive damages to people, property and the animal itself, is not a good strategy and leads to wasting public resource. We would like to bring your kind attention towards the recent protests in Dharamjaigarh, where people have beendemanding a safe passage for elephants to safe guard their livelihood and lives. We have documented the condition of the elephant in July, August and September. We observed that elephant is beingkept under bad living conditions and the capacity of the staff who are involved in training of the animal is alsoquestionable. The elephant also under severe stress when we visited and is loosing weight drastically (see pics attached). We kindly urge you to relocate the elephant to its original place and invest our money and efforts where it matters.
We are also attaching details on some cases where the elephants have been successfully relocated from other states foryour kind attention.Sincerely,Alok Prakash PutulJournalistMIG A-1, Chandela Nagar, Ring Road-2, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh 495001alokputul@gmail.com +91 9826020625CC:1.
