Vision-Mission

De La Salle University is a learner-centered research university bridging faith and scholarship in the service of society, especially the poor.

Community Engagement Framework

Community Engagement Framework

All community engagement interventions by DLSU are anchored on a social reality or a combination thereof (social disintegration, poverty and ecological degradation); Contextualization of DLSU CE interventions is guided by the option for the poor lens; DLSU CE process should ideally follow the suggested progression phases from awareness and partnership building to actual community engagement and then to the personal and structural transformation. All output of CE interventions should be leading towards the following vision of society: empowered, sustainable and disaster resilient communities; socially aware and active Lasallians; and good governance; Specific CE interventions should be geared towards a specific vision of society and must eventually contribute to addressing the concerns related to the given social reality.

HOW GK HAS HELPED US

Our partnership with GK has allowed us to do proper screening of potential scholars and expand to different provinces More and more people are getting informed about the opportunity for the poor to study at DLSU and DLS-CSB. We have a better understanding of what our 20% actually needs.

CHALLENGES
Four scholars have already dropped out because of family problems. Having to deal with 100 scholars with limited resources Helping the scholars adjust to a new environment and meeting their different needs. Developing a more inclusive school culture.

Based in Talim Bay, Lian, Batangas. We are helping local fishers to conserve, protect and sustainably utilize their natural resources through formation of local structures, environmental awareness, research, provision supplemental livelihood and institutionalization of management options. Research and technology is supervised by the College of Science through the leadership of Dr. Al Licuanan, a University Fellow and Professor in the Biology Department. Best Practice: Talim Bay Coastal Resource Management

Talim Bay Sea Scouts: Members of the community are trained to take care of their coastal resource. One of the goals of the Community Based Coastal Resource Management program is to pass an ordinance declaring a portion of the coast as marine protected. This was already done in Lumania, and will be done in two more areas.

Helped the community in developing a proposal for a seedling bank of mangroves. So far, they have completed the project. All indicators for success have been met. LGU purchases their seedlings from the community for treeplanting

Let me be the change I want to see. To do with strength and wisdom All that needs to be done and become the hope that I can be. Set me free from my fears and hesitations, Grant me courage and humility. Fill me with spirit to face the challenge and start the change I want to see.

Today, I start the change I want to see. Even if I am not the light, I can be the spark. In faith, service and communion, Let us start the change we want to see The change that begins in ME.
