Corporation Mayor MSubramanian on Mondaysaid that a ban would beimposed on sale ofeatables, tea, coffee andother food stuff packed inplastic materials that arebeing sold and used on theMarina Beach. The banwould come into effectfrom Aug. 15.At an interactionsession held near theLabour Statue, the Mayorsaid that the thinkingability of children wasaffected because ofplastic products.The use ofplastics could causecancer and affect thenervous system, sopeople shouldcompletely avoid usingplastic, he said.Subramanian also saidthat as part of thebeautification ofChennai, wall paintingsdepicting the culture ofTamils were being doneon 50,000 square feet ofspace on Anna Salai.He added thatrestrictions would also beimposed on pasting ofposters and graffiti on theflyovers and subways.CorporationCommissioner RajeshLakhoni also spoke.
