AFS Intercultural Programs, a non- prot, volunteer-based organization,is looking or host amilies or 2 AFS exchange students who willattend Arkansas Baptist High School in the all. The students areEmkje rom the Netherlands and Alexy rom Brazil. People who hostwith AFS provide a bed, meals, and loving support to their exchangestudent. This amazing experience builds intercultural understandingand awareness in your amily, your school, your community, and inthe world.

ummer time is a busy time at Immanuel. That is not only true with all the activities taking place on campus,

but also with many signicant ministry events off campus as well. As you make your prayer list for July and August,don’t forget to include: God and Country Patriotic Worship service, July 5; Youth Mission Trip to Paraguay, July 10-19;Children’s Camp at Siloam Springs, July 27-31; Sunday School Preparation Weekend, August 8-9; Adult Choir Retreat atthe Red Apple Inn, August 21-22 and the Church Wide Golf Tournament at Harbor Oaks Golf Course, August 28.It will be my joy to accompany our students on the mission trip to Paraguay. This will necessitate my missing one Sunday(July 12) but I have invited Dr. Rex Horne to preach that morning. I

our beloved former pastor.On August 23, Dr. Jerry Vines will be here for a one day revival. As many of you know, Dr. Vines is one of my mentorsin ministry and it is always a joy to hear him preach. Dr. Vines has served as pastor of West Rome Baptist Church inGeorgia, Dauphin Way Baptist in Mobile, Alabama and from 1982 until his retirement in 2006, the 20,000 member FirstBaptist Church of Jacksonville, Florida. He was twice elected President of the Southern Baptist Convention (1988-1989)and also served as President of the Alabama and SBC Pastors’ Conferences. He now travels and preaches around thecountry bringing solid exegetical biblical preaching along with his unwavering evangelistic heart. Make your plans to bepresent for this historic day!In July I will begin a series of messages on what it means to be a “missional” congregation. That may be a new word for you, but it is a word used to describe a particular approach to doing missions. Then in August we will look at what theBible says about the importance of making disciples and the process of discipleship. We will discover this is something thatis much easier to talk about than to actually do, but it is the very heart of what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.These months will also be key in our Season of Service as we prepare for the Luis Palau CityFest coming in October. Itis my prayer that God will use this preparation time to bring believers together like never before in Central Arkansas andthat we will see a sweeping revival movement begin that will last long after the October event has come and gone. Pleasemake this a matter of daily prayer. I am optimistically expecting that 100% of our IBC family will nd a way to plug intothe Season of Service as we reach out to our community with the Good News of the Gospel!Please know how much I love being your pastor. Thank you for your faithfulness in attendance and giving, especiallyduring these summer months. I look forward to each and every week of sharing the Word of God with our dearImmanuel Family!

What Is I-Disciple (Immanuel Disciple)?

It is Chrisan discipleship at its best!

Discipleship, as opposed to popular belief, is not teaching. Teaching is to discipleship as chewing is to eang...you may get a taste but you’re sll going to starve to death. You have to swallow, digest and metabolize whatyou chewed or it does you no good. You can’t be taught discipleship, it has to be caught by inmate contactwith people who are living it. Jesus spent 3 years living with the 12 disciples. They went where He went,slept where He slept, ate what He ate, and witnessed every word He spoke and acon He took. Even aer Heascended, the standard discipleship method for 350 years was small, inmate groups who spent most of theirlives together. We’re fooling ourselves if we think an hour or two each week spent listening to someone talkcomes anywhere near discipleship...even if we’re taking notes. What is needed is inmate small groups, whereChrisan living is the focus, rather than preaching or teaching.
