This is from "Field Theory for Engineers" Parry Moon and Domina Eberle Spencer (1961). The Maxwell curves represent the fringing fields at the edge of parallel electrodes in 2D and can be turned into 3D electrode shapes by translation, rotation &c

The works by Moon & Spencer are truly magnificent for anyone who is interested in separation of variables solutions for field theory problems.
