Refuse and Recycle Q&A
Q
: Will I have to pay for the new larger containers?
A
: No, the containers are provided with no additional charge to the resident.
Q
: Can I keep my current trash receptacle and yellow recycle container?
A
: Yes, residents may keep what they currently have. However, to meet the requirements for automation, residents
must
use the containers provided by Kimble.
Q
: If I do not have enough trash to fill the container, can I put out a single bag of trash?
A
: No, to aid in the efficiency of the automated service all trash must be placed in the container  provide by Kimble.
Q
: If the new contract states that there is unlimited trash collection, and the driver has to get outof the truck to remove any extra trash, w
hy can’t I
put a single bag out?
A
: During normal trash collection, where there is not extra refuse to be collected, we ask that theresidents continue to use the container provided by Kimble to aid in the efficiency of theautomated service.
Q
: Can I request a smaller refuse cart?
A
: Yes, if the (96) gallon cart is too large, a smaller (65) gallon cart will be provided asrequested, otherwise residents will automatically receive the larger (96) gallon container.
Q
: How large is the recycle cart?
A
: The recycle cart provided by Kimble is (65) gallons and is the only size.
Q
: If a resident has a physical hardship that prevents he or she from being able to wheel the cartto the tree lawn, can they request a smaller refuse cart?
A
: Yes, under extreme circumstances residents may contact the Service department for reviewand consideration.
Q
: Why is the City not competitively bidding this contract out?
A
: Our initial refuse contract was competitively bid and awarded to Kimble. The proposal that is before Council is adding recycle collection onto our contract through an extension that includesautomated refuse and recycle collection. Council has the ability to waive competitive bidding if
the reason to do so is in the City’s best interest. In this case, the sav
ings over the period of theextension is over $500,000.00.
