Local Wireless Network Upgrade Extends Access to Advanced Products, Services and Applications
EMPORIA, VA., October 24, 2013
AT&T*today announced the availability of its mobile Internet service along the stretch of U.S. Route 58 between Emporia and Franklin, extending access for advanced mobile services, devices and applications to customers in the area. AT&T is an industry leader in delivering the benefits of the mobile Internet, offering powerful and flexibleconnectivity, a wide range of smartphone and other device options, and simultaneous voice and datacapabilities for an amazing wireless voice and Internet experience.
This upgrade is part of AT&T’s Project Velocity IP (VIP), a three
-year investment plan announced lastfall to expand and enhance its IP broadband networks. Through this investment, AT&T is supporting its
customers’ growing desire for high
-speed Internet access and new mobile, app and cloud-basedservices. As part of Project VIP, AT&T plans to add more than 10,000 macro cell sites nationwide byyear-end 2015, as well as deploy more than 40,000 small cells and add more than 1,000 Distributed Antenna Systems to increase the density of its wireless network.
―Investments in mobile Internet technologies foster economic growth in areas like small business, high

J. Michael Schweder, president of AT&T Mid- Atlantic.
―This investment is especially important
to consumers and businesses on this stretch of USRoute 58 and will have an immediate impact for our consumers and businesses
Schweder added that these enhancements are the latest examples of AT&T’s significant infrastructure
investment in Virginia. From 2010 through 2012, AT&T invested more than $850 million in its Virginiawireless and wireline networks to meet customer demand. In the first half of 2013, the companyinvested nearly $175 million more in the Commonwealth. AT&T operates

Most AT&T smartphone customersget access to our entire national Wi-Fi network at no additional cost, and Wi-
Fi usage doesn’t count
against cu
stomers’ monthly wireless data plans.
Over the past five years, AT&T invested nearly $98 billion into its wireless and wireline networks acrossthe country.
