It is interesting to me that the persecution of Christians often gets forgotten. Paul- who was Saul before his conversion- had been an early persecutor of the new religion UNDER THE DIRECTION AND WITH THE BLESSING OF the Sanhedrin, of which he was a part. While Jews themselves could not, under Roman law, perform the actual abuses (kitty food, anyone?) The very religious and zealot Jews of the day, mostly the politicals like the scribes and pharisee, were more than willing to help seek out and bring before tribunals, those suspected of being Christian. Hundreds of thousands of Christians suffered during the first 200 years of Christianity. And let us not forget more modern history, visa vis,the Armenian genocide wherein the Young Turks, working in concert with Jewish leadership and Jewish participation, were responsible for the deaths of millions- by some esitmates some 16 million plus- Armenian Christians over a four year span of time. And even today, Jewish leaders in many areas have fought against the recognition of this event, not because they dont believe it happened, rather, because they are afraid that the Turkish leadership will turn on Jews living in Turkey if they support the effort to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
