In our class this week

What a busy week with Grandparents Day, Living Rosary and the fun all school movie! The students really enjoyed having their grandparents come and see them at school, and they all did an amazing job at the Living Rosary. The children were also very excited to play outside in the snow this week! They came inside very wet, but had a lot of fun! We did get some work in this week, and in reading focused on the letter Aa and learned the word see. We also sequenced a couple of Halloween stories and talked about the difference between poetry and regular stories. Our class also learned about using descriptive words in a sentence. Retelling was another reading focus, we learned how to retell a story using a flow map, props and even acted out a story. They caught on quickly to this concept. In math we finished up our unit on comparing numbers with an assessment. The rosary was our focus in religion this week. The students learned why we pray the rosary and about the beads and prayers. The children listened to the story The Patchwork Quilt and after hearing it we had a discussion about family and friends. The kinder kids then drew a picture for our own classroom patchwork quilt.

A Peek at the Week

Next week we will learn about the letter Tt. We will read some fun Halloween books and focus on learning about the characters in a book. We will begin learning about tricky teens in math and talk about All Saints Day in religion. In social studies we will start the topic Where We Live and do a fun Halloween experiment in science.
