Entry Date Comment 10/26/2013 19:48 Cedar Mesa is a great area that can be enjoyed by everyone.

I think Cedar Mesa should go back to 1976 when it was declared multi-use land, and it should stay as multi-use land. I don't think their should be any concessions favoring one 10/26/2013 21:48 people over another (Navajos or any others). I think we are all Americans. No 'group' should be elevated above another..it's not Constitutional & as far as I know the Constitution is STILL the Law of The Land. That includes the Navajo, the archeologist, environmentalist, ranchers & dead people. I cannot comprehend how 'wilderness' could possibly include the 'bugging' of Cedar Mesa' or the signage...or even trails for that matter. This is not land management...this is people management & archeology is nothing more than a government sponsored hobby that I'm tired of 10/26/2013 22:05 funding. Phil Lyman listens & cares, he's the only one. 10/26/2013 22:16 I think they are going to have an oil field out there to deal with soon cedar Mesa is a great place. It is being used presently by a bunch of people that need access. Does it need cared for.. of course.. The canyons are full of ruins that need at least some protection before they are loved to death. Does wilderness fit the bill? MOstly wilderness areas are loved to death, causing a loss of the very thing wilderness was supposed to protect. Better to find something different that lets the cowmen, the wood gatherers, as well as the hikers and ruin lookers enjoy and use the land without 10/26/2013 22:30 destroying it. I believe Cedar Mesa should be a multi use area. A place where "everyone" can come and enjoy the area. I think the Navajo people are being used by these "other" groups in their efforts to gain the land. I dont believe they will ever actualy receive the land from 10/26/2013 23:33 these people. This is sad to me.

I have lived in Blanding my entire life. Cedar Mesa is an area of the county i hold dear to my heart. i have spent countless hours from one end of the mesa to the other. (never buying a back country permit). i consider my drivers license with a sjc address as my 10/27/2013 0:00 permit. I absolutely do not want cedar mesa given to the navajos. Why close anything off? What exactly would that be accomplishing? A big fat nothing is the answer to my rhetorical question. Leave our land open and useful to all people. 10/27/2013 0:12 Dumb asses. 10/27/2013 2:48 We don't need any new restrictions on land use for the Cedar Mesa Area. 10/27/2013 8:06 I think cedar mesa is an incredible natural area that needs to be preserved, not used. some areas have been study areas for 20 plus years. we have seen nothing. Time to open areas back up and be public land. san Juan county it is time to take a stand and 10/27/2013 9:42 FIGHT!

Too much federal government involvement in local communities and state 10/27/2013 10:44 government. It is a beautiful area that has seen increased use and abuse since it has been in the news so much. It needs to be a multi use roads kept up so everyone can use it. I have 10/27/2013 12:56 had a broken ankles where I couldn't hike yet could ride and enjoy.

Cedar Mesa has been a traditional area for many Navajo's for years. The use should not be cut off. Limit's should be imposed so the habitat is not destroyed. There is private land and grazing permits within this area That need to be honored and maintained. But the county and State should have control not the People outside the area that come to see and trash the area. Dark Canyon was a great area and now hundreds of people flock to see it and the trash and destruction is great. Allow the County residents to continue 10/27/2013 13:32 to use and preserve our ground.

I think we had more wild life such as deer,rabbits,birds,etc... In the 1970s when we had access.seems to me we created a major problem when government agencies started studying ancient sites! Digging graves is wrong.even for schools.if cedar Mesa is a grave site then no one in the modern world has right to be there.if anyone is denied access then everyone must be denied. If we can't come to agreement that works for all special groups including visitors, then we must lock it up like a tomb.the best way to make something valuable is to make it illegal! We know the war on drugs hasn't worked, making it illegal to sneak into the US has not stopped the increase on our southern borders. The dine' people need fire wood for their homes it is a long way to drive from Navajo mountain to Monticello Utah to get wood permit, why can't rangers give out or sell permits on the spot.instead they just want to arrest as though one is a criminal!why do I feel as if my own yard is against the law if I don't have proper documents in hand?how can public land be shut down, when taxes have already been appropriated thru congress for the management of these national treasures?I think we 10/27/2013 14:39 need to look at doing what Apache county Arizona is doing! 10/27/2013 14:44 Open all public lands. We have enough parks.

I think it should be administered by state and local government and local advisory board. I don't think government should be shutting anyone out on Cedar Mesa, it's the people who have always lived here who really care the most for our land here. Although many have come here to live and enjoy the land with us who also care very much about it and don't want to be shut out after coming here to enjoy it, unlike the interlopers who see what we have and what we are willing to share, and want what we 10/28/2013 0:01 have for themselves, and try to shut us out.
