This course introduces students to the epic of al-Andalus and the history that goes with it. IR 362: The International Relations of the Contemporary Middle East TTh 5:00-6:20 Fayez Hammad Introduction to the problems and issues in the Middle East today: religio-ethnic rivalries, conflicting nationalisms and ideologies, the Arab-Israeli conflict, Middle East oil. IR 463: Islam and Arab Nationalism MW 8:00-9:20 Laurie Brand Historical, sociological and political processes that have shaped the emergence of and relationship between Arab nationalism and political Islam since the early 20th century.
