2 Year Exchange Training Program in Ireland

PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan has established an agreement with the HSE (Health Service Executive) and the Forum of Postgraduate Training Bodies in Ireland to offer a Postgraduate Scholarship Programme. The first intake to this program (in three specialties) commenced in July, 2013 and the program will now be expanded to additional specialties for a July 2014 intake. The purpose of the agreement is to permit Pakistani graduates to obtain exposure to the Irish health system and to complete part of their specialty training in Ireland. The two year training program (July 2014) will be available in the following specialties: Anaesthesia Emergency Medicine General Surgery General Medicine Obstetrics/Gynaecology Paediatrics

Structured training (Post-IMM) will be provided for 2 years in these specialties and this training will be recognized by the CPSP as part of postgraduate training. Following the 2-year scholarship, candidates must return to complete their training and examinations in Pakistan. Under the terms of the scholarship, successful candidates will be awarded a bursary which will cover the costs of travel to Ireland and return, registration with the Medical Council in Ireland, and accommodation and induction on arrival in the country. On commencement in a post, candidates will be remunerated and employed under national terms and conditions as applicable to doctors employed in Irish hospital services.
