On September 23, 2013 PredPol Inc. and Salinas amended their contract, effectively cancelling the use of PredPol by the Salinas police for the last 2 years of the 3-year contract. The police cited a lack of resources, especially officers, making their use of the expensive crime prediction tool impossible. Salinas explained that its "financial position inhibits their ability to pay for and devote the necessary resources to years 2 and 3 of the Agreement." The contract amendment suspended Salinas's payments to PredPol, but it states that Salinas will continue to facilitate marketing activities on behalf of PredPol, and that PredPol will retain access to Salinas's crime statistics and other police data.
