Welcome to your neighbourhood newsletter - letting you know some of the work being carried out by the police and partners in your area Latest news This leaflet is to inform you, as the local neighbourhood, of a recent development which is of direct relevance to the community Following excellent partnership working between West Midlands Police, Birmingham City Couneil and the local community itself, we have been able to secure an Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) against a local prolific offender. Piara PUREWAL, aged 18 years, recently appeared at Birmingham Crown Court and was issued with an ASBO which will be in force for at least five‘ years - until 10/07/2014 (the minimum duration when such an order is granted is two years). Anti-social behaviour is any aggressive, intimidating or destructive activity that damages or destroys another person's quality of life. ASBO's are court orders which forbid specific threatening or intimidating actions. They are designed to protect specific victims, neighbours, or even whole communities from behaviour that has frightened or intimidated them, or damaged their quality of life, These are civil orders - not criminal penalties — so they won't appear on a suspect's criminal record. However, if that person breaches an ASBO, they have committed a criminal offence, which is punishable by a fine or up to five years in prison Under this particular order, PUREWAL has the following conditions placed upon him: + Entering the area bounded by Winson Green Rd, Dudley Rd, Spring Hil, Icknield St, + He is forbidden from associating with certain individuals as known by police, + Heaton St, Whitmore St, Goode Av and Lodge Road. PUREWAL may enter for the purpose of returning to his home address he may only use a pre-determined route to go straight to or from the address and must not gather or loiter along this route. Please find a copy of the exclusion zone attached; ‘+ He is not to be in any public place whilst wearing any face covering, mask, balaclava or other garment capable of covering the face, eyes, nose or mouth other than a motorcycle helmet whilst lawfully riding a motor cycle or being carried as a passenger on a motor cycle or glasses for the purposes of the correction of sigh defects. If any person would like to discuss this matter with the local Neighbourhood Policing Team, or to report any breaches of these conditions, please contact the team using the details on the reverse of this leaflet. © Crown copyright.
