Finalists Set for World Bowling Tour Finals

ARLINGTON, Texas - The three men and three women who will compete in the season-ending World Tenpin Bowling Association World Bowling Tour Finals was officially determined over the weekend as the regular season came to a close. The finalists were determined based on the World Bowling Tour points standings and will compete for a $70,000 prize pool on Nov. 3 in Las Vegas. Fresh off a win at the seasonending World Bowling Tour Thailand event in Bangkok, Thailand, Sean Rash of the United States led the rankings with 583 points. Mika Koivuniemi of Finland finished second in Thailand and also was second in the rankings with 539 points. Mike Fagan of the United States qualified third with 496 points. Three other players in the men's division had a chance to make it into the World Bowling Tour Finals but elected not to bowl in Thailand. Chris Barnes (USA) finished fourth with 491 points, Tommy Jones (USA) was fifth with 481 and Jason Belmonte (Australia) was sixth with 455 points. On the women's side, the final three were determined before the event in Thailand even begun and none of the top three traveled to Thailand to compete. Kelly Kulick (USA) earned the most ranking points with 647, while Liz Johnson (USA) was second with 555 and Missy Parkin (USA) took third with 539 points. Fourth place was Diandra Asbaty (USA) with a distant 365 points. The World Bowling Tour is made up of various events around the world and players earn points based on how they finish in each event. The current points system is based on a continuous two-year cycle, so points earned in 2012 are added to points earned in 2013 to determine the points list. The World Bowling Tour Finals will use a stepladder format in each division with the No. 2 and No. 3 players facing each other for the right to take on the points leader. The special event will feature a total prize fund of $70,000. The prize money for each division is the same, with the winner taking $20,000, second place earning $10,000 and third place winning $5,000. The World Tenpin Bowling Association, which is made up of 111 bowling federations, governs the sport throughout the world. BPAA TO CELEBRATE WOMEN'S PROFESSIONAL BOWLING IN 2014

Women's All Star Tournament and Bowling's U.S. Senior Women's Open Set For Rockford, Illinois
ARLINGTON, Texas - The Bowling Proprietors' Association of America (BPAA) today announced plans for two exciting women's bowling tournaments in 2014. The Women's All Star Tournament and Bowling's U.S. Senior Women's Open are scheduled for Rockford, Illinois in mid-July 2014. The two contests include a dinner honoring women bowlers as well as other events celebrating the history of women's professional bowling. "Women have made so many valuable contributions to the sport of bowling and provided some of the best excitement on the lanes," said BPAA President Cathy DeSocio. "It is only fitting we honor the stars of the past as well as showcase the stars of today and the future," adding, "Traditionally, women have not had the same type of high profile events as the men, and we think this is a perfect opportunity to turn the spotlight on them." Women's pro bowling started in 1959 with the original Professional Women's Bowling Association (PWBA) holding their first event in 1960. The Ladies Pro Bowling Tour (LPBT), which began in 1981, became the new PWBA in 1998 and enjoyed a five year run. BPAA's Tournament Committee says it will focus on the Women's All Star Tournament and Bowling's U.S. Senior Women's Open while they re-boot the Men's and Women's Bowling's U.S. Open formats to resume in 2015. "After running successful events in Dallas, Reno and most recently in Columbus, and soliciting in-depth feedback from participants and BPAA member centers, we want to look at ways to freshen and improve the Men's and Women's Bowling's U.S. Opens in 2015 and beyond." said John Losito, chair of the BPAA Tournament Committee. "In the meantime, we are excited to have the opportunity to celebrate women's bowling in 2014 with these two great events."

JonMikal Sepero and Erik Katterman Spark Youth Travelers

By Vince Albrecht HACKENSACK, NJ - The Stan Niemiec Youth Traveling League kicked off the new season at where, on the wings of JonMikal Sepero 242 and newcomer Anthony Rizzo 215, defending champion Bowler City I soared to a 1014-990 opening game win over Boonton. However, the latter stayed hot and brought BC I back to earth with decisive force, taking the match, 5-2 behind Erik Kattermanns triple deuce 616 set and leadoff kegler Adam Gelvans 474 over average threesome. In addition to quality scores from Matt Myers 189 and Jake Nappi 171, Fair Lawn rode the deuces of Hassan Izzard 213 and Tyler Nappi 209 to a sweep of the Bowler City III quartet. Pacing the BC III squad was the vastly improved Alijah Jackson with 213-198 while new entrant Dana Laloo added a 181. Holiday swung from the gate with the days best scratch effort, a 2249, but could only come away with two points as Bowler City II capitalized on the above average outings of its players. In addition to George Held 209, anchor Alex Voorhees contributed 180-197 and Kelley Grippo 188. Spearheading Holidays effort with a shower of deuces were Nick Cilento 226-202, Alex McGuire 224, Anastasia DeLeon 222 and Ryan McGuire 201. Rounding out opening week action, Montvale rolled past shorthanded Lodi, 7-0 on strong games from newcomer Dan Sproviero 180-184, Kyle Ladewig 183 and Matt Russell 182; their teammate Michaella Raab displayed improvement over the past season with three better than average games. Southpaw Chris Navarro was high for Lodi with a fine 195 middle game.
