Dont worry its totally normal if your guy has started acting a
little crazy. Weve delved inside the grooms brain to give you simple
strategies for dealing with his strange behavior.
The Groomzilla
He says things like: I dont know, Im just not feeling peonies ...
succulents might be better.
How to deal: Relax; no one is suggesting that you take his
balloon-centerpiece idea seriously. Hes probably just coping with
inner panic, and hes overcompensating. So make him feel like the
equal player that he is and assign him a few tasks to oversee all on
his own.
The Social Secretary
He says things like: I just invited a cool guy from the gym.
Make sure you add him to the guest list.
How to deal: Hello! His exuberance may be adorable, but there
are better ways to express it. Heres what to do: Show him the cold,
hard numbers. Theres nothing more sobering than seeing just how
much these extra people can drive up the bottom line.
The Mamas Boy
He says things like: A teddy-bear theme could be cool just
because your future mother-in-law made the suggestion.
How to deal: Work out the details with him behind the scenes
and let him be the one to stand up to his mom. Keep in mind that
she just wants to help, so give her a task that will play to her strengths
(come on everyones good at something!).
The BigTalker
He says things like: Dont worry. Ive got it covered.
How to deal: Resist nagging. Instead, have weekly check-ins
where you both can give progress reports. Real progress reports, not
just Ill get to it or Dont worry. When all the wedding-task talk
takes place at one time, youll be less tempted to bring it up
repeatedly and risk becoming ... yep, a nag.

In other words, dont fret because youve never
spent this much money on your clothes
before! This is one of the times its OK to
splurge, so keep an open mind and a
relaxed budget while we show you why
your wedding gown is worth every penny.
Hand Embellishment
It takes 10 days, 20 people
and more than 2,400 hours
to embroider the gowns
66,360 crystals and beads.
Stay-Put Structure
The bustier is fused,
molded and contoured to
improve comfort and fit,
which takes about three
hours from start to
finish. Ladies, this is
what holds your gown
(and the girls) in
place while youre
moving and
shaking on the
dance floor.
Luxurious Lining
Sure, no one sees it, but youll certainly
feel the difference of pure silk taffeta lining on
your skin. Just dont get too cozy; like it or
not, youre going to have to take it off
eventually.
Rich Fabric
From the top of the gown to the
tip of the train, there are 16 yards of
double-faced silk satin. Thats enough
fabric to reupholster an entire sofa.
Attention to Detail
Extra-strength invisible zippers are
brought in from the Far East to bear
the weight of the ball gown and help
prevent slipping. This means no
more tugging!
Machine StitchWork
Once all the pieces are
created, it still takes 18 hours
of machine work to
assemble this Platinum
for Priscilla of Boston
couture gown.

Q. My groom wants a grooms cake, but I dont think we can
fit it in our budget. What other ways can we compromise?
A. Work together on your cake and compromise. For a multi-
layered cake, you can each choose a flavor that you like. If
hes totally into chocolate with raspberry filling and youre all
about coconut with cream, alternate layers of each flavor.
If he insists on having a grooms cake, consider ordering
cupcakes arranged in a tier. Or let him choose the cake for
the engagement party.
Q. Is it okay for couples to take photos before the
ceremony?
A. Of course. Taking pro photos before the ceremony is a
great idea. Youll be looking your best (no running mascara
from happy tears or flat hair!) and it will give you and the
groom a chance to see each other and spend a few
moments alone. Seeing each other might help relieve some
of those pre-wedding jitters. Even better, after the ceremony,
youll be able to enjoy the cocktail hour right alongside your
guests! Its more time for you to spend with them.
Q: Do we need to have a receiving line?
A. Whether or not you have a receiving line is totally up to you.
If youre not planning to walk around and speak with guests
individually during the reception, then a receiving line is great
way to greet everyone especially for a large wedding.
Not into the receiving line? During dinner, go table to table
and say hello. As long as you reach everyone to thank guests
for coming to your wedding, it doesnt matter how it happens.
Q: Ive tried to tell my bridesmaids that I dont want
strippers at my bachelorette party, but theyre insisting.
Do I grin and bear it, or put my foot down?
A. It doesnt matter what your friends want; it matters what
you want. Its nice that theyre planning a party for you, but
you should be comfortable.
Not all bachelorette parties involve a night of debauchery.
Many brides today opt to have a different kind of celebration.
Why not head out for a girls spa day, a fancy dinner or a night
dancing at a fun local club? Either way, youll have a blast.
Q: The bridesmaid dresses are really expensive, but I love
them! Is it too much to ask my friends to pay for them?
A. You know your bridesmaids well enough to know whether
or not they can afford the expense. If some can afford it while
others cant, it might be smart to choose a different gown that
fits in their price range. You can find hundreds of options on
TheKnot.com. Or, you can mix it up and let the girls who want
to wear the pricier dress do so, and the other girls can choose
something similar. Even better, you can cover a portion of the
dress cost as your gift to them for being in the wedding.

Touch of Black
On the runway: Dark details are the perfect way to add
excitement to a basic white wedding gown. Black waistbands are
simple yet stunning on every silhouette, a graphic floral hem can be
quite flirty and charcoal-colored blooms give a lace gown some
serious edge.
Down the aisle: These accents may be rock-and-roll-inspired, but
dont even think about going gothic. This means forget the smoky
eye and focus on a makeup palette full of soft pinks to keep your
look elegant and fresh.
Incorporate couture
Want to feel like a celebrity on your wedding day? Make the aisle your very own red carpet
by incorporating one of these couture trends into your look. From black details to amazing
embellishments, these over-the-top styles are sure to excite the inner diva in every bride.
Tiers of cascading crystals, dazzling sequined dresses and intricately
beaded designs made their show stopping debut this season. (SHNS photo

Over-the-Top Beading
On the runway: Nothing says glamour like head-to-toe
embellishment. Were especially enamored with tiers of cascading
crystals, dazzling sequined dresses and intricately beaded designs
that made their show-stopping debut this season.
Down the aisle: The key to this alluring trend is keeping
accessories minimal. Stud earrings are the perfect way to
complement, not compete with, an overly embellished dress.
20 Weddings 2009...
Avant-Garde Bows
On the runway: You
dont need charm school to
take note of this adorable
detail. Petite and pristine or
ornate and oversized, bows
are certainly making bridal
headlines. These girly
touches are super sweet,
whether decorating a
bodice or securing the band
of an exaggerated dropped-
waist gown.
Down the aisle: Let
the style of the bow
determine your other
accessories. A big floppy
bow as a bustle shouldnt
be covered. A more
structured style calls for
preppy accessories like a
satin headband or gloves.

Fortunately, the time of year youre getting married and the tone
of your wedding can help narrow the selection.
Roses, a longtime wedding staple, are available year-round and
come in a wide variety of colors. Go with yellow, pink or orange for a
summer wedding, or white or burgundy for a winter affair. Another
all-season flower is the orchid, which comes in several varieties and is
perfect for formal weddings. Calla lilies, stephanotis, lisianthus and
chrysanthemums are other blooms without an off-season.
Marrying in the spring? Play off the fresh feel of the season with
fragrant flowers like peonies and lilies of the valley. Peonies come in
white, cream, peach, pink and burgundy and are great for bouquets.
The oh-so-delicate lily of the valley is another strong-scented option
for the spring. While this flower used to be considered an accent,
more and more brides are opting for simple, small bouquets made
entirely of these blooms.
If youre heating things up in the summer, dahlias are a great
choice. These bright, round blooms come in orange, pink and purple
and work well in everything from your bouquets to your centerpieces.
Looking for something more delicate? Hydrangeas have the fullness
to fill out your arrangement, but with soft hues like white, green,
purple and blue, and are a bit more understated. And then, of course,
there are daisies, perfect for a casual wedding with a playful vibe.
If youre looking for something different for your fall wedding, ask
your florist about chocolate cosmos. These brown blooms smell like a
mix of vanilla and cocoa. If you want a flower that wont have you
trying to lick the bouquet, mums are another option. These flowers
can withstand any type of weather and come in a range of colors.
If your wedding is in the winter, consider going with anemones,
which have black centers surrounded by petals in white, magenta,
purple, or burgundy.
Having a formal wedding? The structured blooms of ranunculus
might be for you. These can be used as accent flowers or on their
own, and work well in round bouquets and in boutonnieres.
For a complete season-by-season guide, check out TheKnot.com/flowers.
Picking the proper wedding flowers
Nobody said planning a wedding was simple, and selecting
flowers is just one of many big decisions youll need to make.

Chefs can play with food to match your signature hues. Like red and green? One

2. Let Your Guests Play Bartender
For a bubble bar, set out champagne, prosecco or other sparkling wine. Offer liqueurs
like Chambord and Schnapps plus juices and fresh fruit purees. Dont forget garnishes.
3. Opt for Family-Style
Serving your guests family-style takes the stuffiness out of a sit-down meal and
encourages guest interaction. Save money by nixing centerpieces the food is your decor.
4. Go Green
Serve organic mixed green salads or free-range chicken with sides of organic
string beans. Drink organic tequilas and vodkas or even biodynamic wines.
5. Kick Up the Kids Menu
Children these days will eat sushi (yes!) and ravioli in a nice brown butter sauce.
Parents will relax knowing their kids are getting a healthy meal instead of chicken
fingers. Just dont forget the milk!

Now is the time to upgrade to ensure that you have
everything you need for those special occasions (like
hosting Thanksgiving dinner a few years down the
road). So get that scanner ready for these five super-
fine splurges.
1. Make a Sterling Choice
Sterling-silver flatware was once a fixed item on
wedding wish lists, but these days, couples tend to skip
over sterling in favor of stainless. Stainless, however, will
never hold the value, beauty and heirloom quality of
real silver. Not to mention, silver wears so well: The
more you use it, the shinier the patina grows. Plus,
contemporary silver collections are even dishwasher safe!
2. Fine Dining
Many shy away from fine dinnerware, thinking that
usage once or twice a year doesnt make the purchase
worth it. But the truth is that porcelain and bone china
are actually tougher and more durable than common
stoneware. So dont save china for special occasions only
work it into everyday dining.
3. Slice and Dice
High-quality knives are probably the single best
kitchen investment you can make. They allow you to
prep meals more quickly, easily and safely. If you dont
want to register for an entire block, then at least invest
in the best of the three basics a chef s knife, a paring
knife and a serrated knife.
4. Stove-Toppers
You need more from a stockpot than the ability to
boil water inexpensive pots and pans wont heat evenly
or properly. Upgrade to stainless (corrosion-resistant)
cookware with aluminum or copper cores (great for heat
conduction), or consider any other copper combination,
anodized aluminum or cast iron.
5. Perk Up
Treat yourselves to the sophistication of a shot at
home. Sleek espresso machines often come with a hefty
price tag, so add one to your wish list and look forward
to brunches and after-dinner aperitifs with happily
caffeinated guests.

You work hard to make every detail divine, so why not capture
the memories in the most stylish ways imaginable? For the latest and
greatest in photo and video splurges, check out this handy guide.
The biggest trend in wedding photography? Better, faster results.
At the end of the evening, we present the couple with a brand-new
iPod touch loaded with fully edited and retouched images
charged and ready to go, says Brian Dorsey of Brian Dorsey Studios
in New York City. You can also showcase completely edited wedding
images on a high-definition screen during the reception.
Creative Engagement Shoots
Couples are opting for more adventurous photos set in the
diner booth where they first met or on a roller coaster. Brian Dorsey
Studios prints the photos in a book format so friends and guests can
sign it like a yearbook.
Return to Style
Design your wedding album like a storybook with flip-outs,
winged pages and invisible seams. Digital technology lets you get
creative with image bleeds and spreads. Every page will look unique.
Special Entertainment
Rent a photo booth or set up a self-portrait studio.
Delightfully random moments will be caught on film since guests
tend to be more natural when theyre working the camera with a
handheld clicker.
Textured Photographs
Give your photos a textured feel by layering two different images.
The effect varies with every image; some look almost like paintings
while other shots offer a greater complexity.
The 3-D Photo Montage Show
In the latest reception montage shows, still images are digitally
manipulated to appear three-dimensional; special effects and music
can be added as well.

WeddingTrailers
Picture a roaring epic movie score,
special editing effects even a voiceover.
The trailer has a more intense style than
a highlight reel, says Adam Forgione,
owner of Pennylane Productions in
Commack, N.Y. Its a teaser to show
family and friends while waiting for your
full-length video.
The Making of the Wedding
This documentary-style wedding
video includes interview clips from the

Trash the Dress
For fun (and to let off steam from the
planning stages), consider a Trash the
Dress video. Brides jump in mud or rip
the dress to shreds with their friends.
While its not necessary memorabilia, it
could be one of your favorite keepsakes.
