Experimental research attempts to establisha cause-and-effect relationship between twophenomena.





The researcher hypothesizes that onevariable, the independent variable, causeschanges in another variable, the dependentvariable.

The purpose of the experimental design is toeliminate alternative hypotheses. If we cansuccessfully eliminate all alternativehypotheses, we can argue-by a process of elimination- that the independent variable isthe cause.
