CORRELATION

SOUND

i.
In the order of the Life-puwer's self-expression,sound, precedes light.
A
very ancient Sanskrit book tells ofShabda-Brahma, the sound-divinity, which ia the root-potencyof all manifestation.
It
says, "Through sound the world
)I
stands. Pythagoras taught the
same
thing. So did Plato,Both were icstructed by Egyptian hierophents. From themthey learned that the physical universe
is
called forth fromchaos
by
ordered, rhythmic sound. Moses, initiated in the
same
Egyptian achools, began Genesis with
an
accountof
a
series of creative acts introduced by the words,
"And
God.said." The Hebrews and the Greeks alike were instructed in
a
secret wisdom which had for
a
central tenet the idea thatthe laws of musical proportion are expressed in all things,When St. John wrote of the Logos, or Creative Word, ''~hro~~hhim all things were
made,
and that which hath been made waslife in him," he sinply published openly what had long beentransmitted from mouth
to
ear in esoteric schools."That which hath been made was life in him: and the

life
was
the light of
men,
is the correct version of that
!l
passage from St. John's Gospel which is usually rendered,In
him
was
life.''Read thc sentenceasthough you had never seen
it
before.Then
you
will
perceive that the first clause saysexplicitly that Life in the Creative Word was the originalstate of everything. This means that planets and people, houses and hills, tables and trees, are expressions of life.Physici~ts oday say the very same thing--only they calllife by another name,
"e
lectro-magnetic energy.

"The life was the light of men. The vital principleof the Creative fiord was,and is, the light
we
know--eventhe physical light which shines upon this oarth from sun andmoon
and
stars.
It
is not merely the physical light. Never-thele~s,

a radiant vibration which includes that physi-cal light amon5 its manif estotions

This is what Western occult schools have always cclled
L.V.X.,
which is Latin for "light".The word
is
written withperiod€ between
its
letters, to indicate a hidden meaning con-nected with the numerals represontcd
by
its
three characters.In Roman numeration
L
is
50,
V
is
5,
and
X
is
10,
so that
L.V.X.
stands for 65.This number has
many
profound occultmeanings, which
it
is impossible to discuss in theso
pages,
except in the briefest way.Enough
to
say
here that thenumber

is equivalent to the six-pointed star,

of
the univsrss and its forces, while
5
is
equiva ent to thePentagram, or f ive-pointed star,
,
which
symbolizes
Man,
