FINANCIAL TROUBLEBut you shall remember Jehovah your God, for it is He whogives you power to get wealth
(Deut 8:18)
Can God trust you with money? Do you have the courage tothank Him publicly for what He gave you? Did you see howsome of us glorified Him even when we had very little andwhen we started to prosper we became very proud? We callupon God when we have difficulties but when we are back onour feet we stop counting His blessings and we start countingour money. What happened? We became so proud that it ishard for us to call the name of Jesus when we have to talk about His blessings. Israel’s financial problems were nothingnew. This will happen when we start to believe that: “
Mypower and the might of
my
hand has gotten me this wealth”(Deut 8:17)
.
Don’t ever get blinded by your success,
don’t forget thesource of all blessings you have, and be careful not to be toooverwhelmed by your blessings and to be unable toacknowledge the One who blessed you. God told Israel
:“Beware that you do not forget Jehovah your God,…
when
you have eaten and are full and have built good houses andlived in
them,
…and your silver and your gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied, …and you might forgetJehovah your God who brought you forth…from the houseof slaves” (Deut 8:11-14)
.
God is not against your success
. He condemns arrogance. Godis not against your wealth. He condemns greediness. When youhave very little and suddenly you enter the Promised Land it iseasy to forget where you came from. Some big parties, a special brand new suit, a new car and a house in a “goodneighborhood” may make you forget about the troubles of the past. God had to remind Israel many times not to forget Hisgoodness and His provision for them.Where are we now?
The same things are valid for us.“Remember Jehovah your God, for it is He who gives youpower to get wealth”(!?) “As the nations whom Jehovahdestroys before your face, so you shall perish because youwould not listen to the voice of Jehovah your God”. (Deut8:18-20)
Bottom line:
Everything we have is from God!
“
Because you say, I am rich and increased with goods andhave need of nothing, and do not know that you arewretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, Icounsel you to buy from Me gold purified by fire, so thatyou may be rich; and white clothing, so that you may beclothed, and
so that
the shame of your nakedness does notappear. And anoint your eyes with eye salve, so that you maysee…therefore be zealous and repent. (Rev.3:17-19)“Remember Jehovah your God, for it is He who gives youpower to get wealth” (Deut 8:18)HOUSTON, TX – PASTORS’ CONFERENCE
