Money was getting increasingly tightfor Ian Paget.Financial pressures may havecaused the Smith, Alta., man tosnap Sunday when he apparentlykilled his wife, daughter andgranddaughter and then himself, hisformer son-in-law says."This didn't just start on Sunday,"said Terry Eliuk, whosenine-year-old daughter Misty wasmurdered. "It wasn't a big happyfamily."Eliuk and Paget were neighbours,their rural properties within walkingdistance.They were also in-laws until Eliuk separated from his wife,Jolene, Paget's daughter.Jolene went back to live with her parents. The couple's twoyoung children, Misty and Dusty, went between the twohouses.Eliuk believes Paget may have been almost $500,000 in debtand was in danger of losing his land by the fall.The week before the murders, Paget went to Eliuk's property.It was the first time he had visited in five years, since aroundthe time Eliuk and Jolene separated.Eliuk had invited him over several times.
