Promptedby the seriousness o the energy crisis and climate-change eects worldwide, theworkshop emphasized tactics and strategies or the world’s uture in energy.Te Foundation invited energy experts rom Europe and North America, andscholars concerned with the long-term uture o humanity to come together todiscuss renewable energy science and technologies anticipated to emerge duringcoming centuries. Sixteen participants, representing our countries, gathered toshare their expertise.Te Foundation For the Future was established with the mission to increase anddiuse knowledge concerning the long-term uture o humanity. Our Humanity  Program ocuses specically on the thousand-year uture, starting with thebasic question: “Where does humanity go rom here?” Te March/April workshop posed that question in the context o energy in three time periods:rom now to the end o the present century, over the next ew centuries, and thenext thousand years.Tis book is a comprehensive record o the “Energy Challenges” workshop.
