Student learning is an integrated part of teaching process, as we realize thatstudentlearning is a product of effective teaching. Demonstration, discussion, andtalkativemethods applying in teaching chemistry at class X in semester I SMASwadhipa Natar arenot optimum to improve of student achievement and activity in study,especially thedemonstration were carried out rarely, because of limitedness chemicalsubstances inschool. Using experiment method by substances from environment of studentarea is analternative experiment method to exceed of limitedness chemicalsubstances. This researchhas an objective to know improvement of student achievement and activity inlaboratories(psychomotor) by applying experiment method by use substances fromenvironment of student area in teaching chemistry at class X in semester 1 on 2006 year.Subject of thisresearch are 37 students of class X in semester 1 SMA Swadhipa Natar,consists of 11male and 26 female. The research was carried out in three cycles, and everycycle consistsof planning, implementation, evaluation, and reflection. The teaching processwas carriedout trough experiment, discussion, presentation, and homework. The result of the research showed that there are improvement of studentachievement andactivity in study from cycle to cycle.Key Words: Chemical Substances, environment, achievement.
Berdasarkan observasi awal dan diskusi dengan guru kimia kelas X SMASwadhipa NatarLampung Selatan diperoleh bahwa hasil belajar kimia siswa kelas X selama inisangatrendah (rata-rata 4,85), meskipun telah dilakukan berbagai upaya yangdilakukan oleh guruuntuk meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa, namun hasilnya masih jauh dariharapan.
