Today, we present a new wine cellar named BERNAV has evolved from the restlessness of three young viticulturalists and their passion for the enchanting world of vineyards and making wines: Marco Bernava his partner Ruth Fullat Sister, and brother Gino Bernava. Their Italo-Catalan project started in 2007, choosing a personal and familiar setting in Terra Alta, a region of Tarragona district in South West of Calalunya (Spain). This has produced the restoration of a traditional vineyard, the planting of thousands of new vines and the completion of a modern winery in 2011. The history of Mas Vernet, dates back to 1694, and is rooted in the north of Vilalba dels Arcs along the Cam de Berrs which reaches up to the Ebro River valley: here BERNAV cultivates its vines and makes wine exclusively from its grapes interpreting the terroir". The location of BERNAV Wines was carefully selected for the peculiar potential of the region, recognised by the three winemakers. They are in a precoastal, area where the Mediterranean climate meets the Spanish highlands: here the high temperature variation between day and night during the summer promotes good grape maturation. Climate conditions of this area also allow a style of production that totally respects and enhances the environment. The limestone quaternary soils present quite extreme and fascinating conditions. In this land of Catalunya, BERNAV decided to look for synergies between the climate and soil varieties as well as agronomic and oenological techniques to characterise the quality of its produce. The native varieties of Garnatxa Blanca and Morenillo, together with typical Garnatxa Negra, assimilate with international varieties to be grown and processed so that their interpretation of the terroir can be tasted and enjoyed in BERNAV wines. BERNAV wants to instil their own formula, processing quality and always respecting the pleasure of matching food and wine: they want to have standout wines, made for scouring tasters searching for some authenticity. The winery continues its interpretation with wines aged in French and Slavonian 3000 litre oak barrels. In these barrels, Cabernets, Sams and Morenillo focus the results of human and natural inputs of the BERNAV philosophy: "interpreting the terroir".

NOTTE BIANCA
THE WINE Young white wine from Garnatxa blanca and Viognier. WINEMAKING Our grapes are traditionally harvested by hand into boxes during the cool night hours minimising the risk of oxidation and loss of varietal aromas. Once in the winery the cool night temperatures provide natural cooling which reduces the cooling requirements of the grapes. From a soft pneumatic pressing of whole grapes, the juice is then clarified and advanced to the alcoholic fermentation process in stainless steel vats with continuous temperature control. The finished wine rests on lees in stainless steel vats and the cold winter conditions of the area help its stabilisation. Bottling is carried out at the end of the cold season. TASTING A vibrant yellow wine with green hues that show its fresh and young character. The aroma of white fruits typical of Garnatxa are mixed with gentle citrus and floral highlights. The first palate sensation is clean and aromatic, but soon the body and a slight touch of creaminess from the Garnatxa blends with the freshness of Viognier: the result is a balanced wine with a good acidity and a long delicious persistence. PACKAGING Horizontal cardboard boxes of 6 x 750 ml Bordeaux bottles.

WE RECOMMEND The perfect union between Mediterranean and Continental features makes this wine a versatile partner on the table, being an excellent combination with seafood, white meats and vegetables, and creamy cheeses. It is best served chilled.

21 VENTUNO
THE WINE Ros wine made with Garnatxa Negra WINEMAKING The evolution of our ros follows a white wine protocol in order to concentrate most on the intensity of the unique aroma of the grapes and to retain a balance of freshness and acidity. The juice from the Garnatxa Negra is separated from the skins after a few hours of cold maceration and then alcoholic fermentation commences with strict temperature control. After fermentation, the wine is aged on lees, and at the end of the stabilisation process, it is bottled in late winter. TASTING The tantilising strawberry colour is attractive and intense. The aroma of berries and white fruit notes prevail. The first palate sensation presents unique aromatic flavours that are enhanced as the body of Garnatxa marries a balanced acidity that supports the fruity highlights. The unique combination of smell and taste results in a wine that is delicious and full of fun. PACKAGING Horizontal cardboard boxes of 6 x 750 ml Bordeaux bottles. WE RECOMMEND Delicious for tapas style food, but with enough body to be enjoyed with vegetables and white meats. Best served cool or chilled.

3D3
THE WINE A young red wine blended from Red Garnatxa, Syrah and Merlot: three varieties of grapes grown in three different fields and processed separately. WINEMAKING Harvested without a high phenolic concentration, the grapes are traditionally picked by hand in boxes and once in the winery are processed with different protocols respecting each grapes characteristic and vintage. Native yeasts, exclusive use of stainless steel vats, short maceration and temperature control enhance the character of the variety of the wine. The soft pressing of the skins allows the use of fine lees to make the wines more elegant and help spontaneous malolactic fermentation. After a period of rigorous winter stabilisation, we blend the three varieties and bottle the 3D3.

TASTING Deep ruby color with violet hues offer aromatic highlights of fresh red cherry and plum with a taste of balsamic and a touch of spice. First palate sensation confirms the youthful character, where the structure with certain lactic notes marries a proper acidity and freshness not just enhancing alcoholic sensations. The taste is clean and persistent, and its freshness is tempting. PACKAGING Horizontal cardboard boxes of 6 x 750 ml Bordeaux bottles. WE RECOMMEND The intense character and sustained freshness is ideal with pasta and rice. It complements aged cheese and red meat dishes. It does not require decanting and we recommend serving at room temperature.

CAVERNET
THE WINE Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc blended, fermented and macerated until maximum extraction and aged 9 months in oak barrels of 3000 liters. WINEMAKING We look for concentration and phenolic maduration that these late varieties can give us in the terroir which we work. Waiting is the key to the quality of this wine and the balance is the objective. Fermentation in stainless vats and prolonged soaking through which we ensure the maximum extraction of varietal characteristics; aged in oak barrels of large volume that meet all the primary value of the wine, harmonize color and tannins and integrate its aromas . With a few months of lees stirring and a total of 9 months of aging the wine is stable only because of the harsh winter. TASTING Deep purple color with bluish hues. Smell futures varietal notes of pepper, blackberry and spices (white pepper) harmonized with the fine toasted oak. The entry into the mouth is powerful and harmonious at the same time. On tasting body and persistence recall and highlight the range of smells, durable and changeable. A result of grape varietal expression and interpretation of the terroir of cultivation. PACKAGING Bordeaux bottles with 750 ml volume, in cardboard boxes of 6 horizontal bottles. WE RECOMMEND Varietal aromas of Cabernet and their harmony with wood, together with balanced alcohol and freshness, suggest compbinations with important risotto, red processed meat and cured meats. It does not require decanting but we recommend opening the bottle a few minutes before service and comply with a 18-20 C of service temperature.
