OPERATOR SAFETY

 Dress properly. Always wear safety glassesor similar eye protection when operating, orperforming maintenance, on your unit (safetyglassesareavailable). Eyeprotectionshouldbe marked Z87.

 Alwayswearfaceordust maskif operationisdusty.

 Alwayswearheavy,longpants,longsleeves,boots,andgloves. Wearingsafetylegguardsis recommended.

 Alwayswearfoot protection. Donot gobare-foot or wear sandals. Stay clear of spinningline.

 Securehairaboveshoulderlength. Secureorremovelooseclothingorclothingwithlooselyhanging ties, straps, tassels, etc. They canbe caught in moving parts.

 Being fully covered also helps protect youfrom debris and pieces of toxic plantsthrownby spinning line.

 StayAlert. Donot operatethisunit whenyouaretired, ill, upset orundertheinfluenceofal-cohol, drugs, ormedication. Watch what youare doing; use common sense.

 Wear hearing protection.

 Never start or run inside a closed room orbuilding. Breathing exhaust fumes can kill.

 Keep handles free of oil and fuel.
UNIT / MAINTENANCE SAFETY

 Inspect unit beforeuse. Lookforandreplacedamaged or loose parts before each use.Makesureall handles, guards, andfastenersare in place and securely fastened. Look forandrepairfuelleaksbeforeuse.Keepingoodworking condition.

 Replace trimmer head that is chipped,cracked, broken, or damaged in any otherway before using the unit.

 Maintainunitaccordingtorecommendedpro-cedures. Keep cutting line at proper length.

 Use only 0.115” diameter Weed Eater

brand cut length line (see REPLACINGTHE LINE). Never use wire, rope, string,etc.

FUEL SAFETY

 Mix and pour fuel outdoors.

 Keep away from sparks or flames.

 Use a container approved for fuel.

 Donot smoke orallow smoking near fuel orthe unit.

 Avoidspillingfueloroil. Wipeupall fuelspills.

 Move at least 10 feet (3 meters) away fromfueling site before starting engine.

 Stop engine and allow to cool before remov-ing fuel cap.

 Always store gasoline in a container ap-proved for flammable liquids.
CUTTING SAFETY
WARNING:
 Inspect the area beforeeach use. Remove objects (rocks, brokenglass, nails, wire, etc.) which can be thrownby or become entangled in line. Hard objectscan damage trimmer head and be throwncausing serious injury.

 Use unit properly. Use only for trimming,mowing, and sweeping. Do not use for edg-ing, pruning, orhedgetrimming. Do not forceunit. It willdothejobbetter, andwithlessriskofinjury, attherateforwhichitwasdesigned.

 Keep firmfooting andbalance. Donot over-reach.
S
 Keep all parts of your body away from spin-ninglineandmuffler. Keepengineandcuttinghead below waist level. A hot muffler cancause serious burns.
S
 Cut only fromyour right to yourleft. Cuttingwith the line on right side of the shield willthrow debris away from the operator.
S
 Useonly indaylight oringood artificial light.
S
 Use only for jobs explained in this manual.
TRANSPORTING AND STORAGE
S
 Stop the unit when not in use.
S
 Carry or transport the unit with enginestopped.
S
 Allow the engine to cool; secure unit beforestoring or transporting in vehicle.
S
 Empty the fuel tank before storing ortrans-porting the unit. Use up fuel left in the car-buretor by starting the engine and letting itrun until it stops.
S
 Store unit andfuel inan areawhere fuel va-pors cannot reach sparks or open flamesfrom water heaters, electric motors orswitches, furnaces, etc.
S
 Store the unit out of the reach of children
SPECIAL NOTICE:
 This unit is notequipped with a temperature limiting mufflerand spark arresting screen which meets therequirements of California Codes 4442 and4443. All U.S. forest land and the states ofCalifornia, Idaho, Maine, Minnesota, NewJersey, Oregon, and Washington require bylaw that many internal combustion engines tobe equipped with a spark arrestor screen. Ifyou operate in a locale where such regula-tions exist, you are legally responsible forinstalling and maintaining the operating con-dition ofthese parts.Failure todosoisaviola-tion of the law. If a spark arrestor is requiredin your area, contact your authorized servicedealer for the proper kit.

ASSEMBLY 
WARNING:
 If received assembled,repeat all steps toensure yourunit isproperlyassembled and all fasteners are secure.Examine parts for damage. Do not use dam-aged parts.
NOTE:
 If you need assistance or find partsmissing or damaged, call 1-800-554-6723.It is normal for the fuel filter to rattle in theempty fuel tank.Finding fuel oroil residue on muffler isnormaldue to carburetor adjustments and testingdone by the manufacturer.
ATTACH THE HANDLE
1. Remove upper wing nut and curved headtube bolt from upper handle.2. Loosen lower wing nut on lower handle.3. Insert upper handle over lower handle.
NOTE:
 Ensure upper handle grips are inposition asshowninthe following illustrations(throttle handle grip on left side).4. Align holes and insert curved head tubebolt through upper and lower handles.5. Re--install andsecurelytighten upperwingnut onto bolt.6. Retighten lower wing nut securely.Upper handleUpper wing nutLower handleLower wing nutTube bolt
