August 2009Dear Friend,Greetings to you on this beautiful summer day! The Lord ismoving by His Spirit at the church. It’s so exciting to see people’s livestransformed before our very eyes by the power of God! This truly is the day theLord has made!There is a very special woman that has been coming to our church lately.She has been taking our Bible study on Wednesday nights and has been receivinga lot from God’s Word. It has changed the way she thinks, acts, speaks, and lives.The Lord has been speaking to her heart about a closer walk with Him and she isresponding to it. Last week she was water baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Itwas such an exciting time! Her countenance changed so completely that she toldus a few days later she thought she would never be rid of her heavy heartedness.The things that she was carrying in her heart aged her and left her troubled. Butwhen she was baptized Jesus took away the heavy load she was bearing and liftedher up. Her whole expression changed when she came out of the water: she wasoverwhelmed by the grace of God! She truly was a new creature! She told us thethings that caused her great sorrow were a real part of her life. But after being baptized, they seemed like they were no longer hers: that life is now gone and shefeels brand new!Many people know a lot of things about the Lord but unfortunately theydon’t know
 Him
. He is wonderful and gracious to those who call on His name. Hewill save and strengthen and guide all who put their trust in Him. He is the author and finisher of our faith. We weren’t born with faith. The Bible plainly teaches usthat faith is a gift from God to believing sinners (Some people think they never sinned, but that, too, is a false notion). When we open our hearts to His voice andrespond to His call, He comes to us and gives us His grace and mercy. He willnever leave the person who looks to Him by faith. He will never cast out thosewho trust Him. The song writer had it right when he sang, “He may not comewhen you want Him; but He’s always on time! Give Him a chance; He’ll work itout!”There have been many answers to prayer lately at church. We serve a Godwho answers prayer! The Lord Jesus said, “
Therefore I say unto you, whatthings soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and yeshall have them
” (
Mark 11:24
). It’s no use praying if we don’t believe the Lordwants to answer, or we can’t see beyond the circumstances. Is there anything toohard for the Lord? After all, He is the same one who rose from the dead! He is the
