The biggest challenge that we will face is air freight out of South America, which is extremely volatile and continuing to climb. Broccoli markets have softened considerably this week as more supplies are becoming available and quality is good. There are also some supplies being harvested on the East Coast that has helped ease shortages. Quality supplies are arriving from New York. Smaller sizing is seasonal. Market conditions are stable. The Cauliflower market remains active as supplies are still light, and expected to remain as such for the near future. Markets are steady with good supplies and quality. Oxnard will be starting soon, helping with holiday demand. Quality is good with small sizing. Harvesting has transitioned to Georgia. Georgia Cucumber quality is fair to good and markets are steady. Light volumes of Florida Cucumbers have begun. Georgia Eggplant markets have strengthened. Markets are steady on continued light supplies. Quality is fair. Watercress will be limited next week. Cilantro (California) quality and supplies remain steady with limited weather related quality issues. All other herbs are in good supply from South America. Iceberg markets are lower with better supplies, as harvesting has begun in Huron. All lettuces are showing increased quality with stronger demand being met with increasing supplies. Due to fringe burn on romaine more green is being cut from romaine heads prior to processing. Iceberg supplies are improving. Leaf and Butter lettuces have remained steady with good supplies. The Romaine market is weaker with better supplies and good quality. Spring mix quality has been consistent. Supplies will remain steady for now as the weather pendulum swings.

Mushrooms CA, PA, CH Mushroom markets are tighter as demand slowly increases. Markets will remain active as we move into the season. Markets are starting to strengthen due to holiday demand. The Green Pepper market is stronger as cooler weather in Georgia slows down supplies. California Colored Pepper markets are steady on light supplies. The Red market is steady but high, with tight availability in B size. Supplies are better as drier weather improves conditions. Quality issues and tight supplies are affecting arrivals. Markets are stable as the constant weather changes affect quality. Green and Yellow Squash markets are steady from Florida and Georgia. Roma markets are easing as Florida areas start. Round, Cherry and Grape markets are gaining strength.

The Apple season is in full swing. New crop has started and quality is great with many selections. Eastern crops have begun and are promising a 20% increase in volume over last season. Quality is good. Sell Apples! As Mexican fruit volume increases, markets are now coming off and quality is good. Larger sizes are scarce and those markets are increasing. The supply has stabilized in the various growing regions. Quality is good.

Volumes are increasing slowly as arrivals from Argentina are limited due to rain and previous frost. Both quality and supplies from California and Mexico are good. Demand is stronger and markets are stable.

Markets are high, but remain stable. Supplies are starting to ease as the District 3 area is in full swing. Quality is improving. Color is improving as we enter into the new crop. Markets are creeping up as they normally do as we approach the holiday season. Valencia Oranges will be finishing up over the next few weeks. Markets are steady. Early Navels have started and volumes will increase over the next few weeks. Overall, Grape markets are starting to strengthen, quality is good and demand is steady. Green Grape markets remain strong. Quality and volume are fine. Rain at planting in the Arizona growing region slowed production. In addition, recent cooler temperatures have delayed product from reaching a maturity level to harvest. The adverse weather has impacted the crop with lower yields, (currently at about 20% yield) creating a demand exceeds situation on supplies. We anticipate the current markets to remain active and unsettled for the next 2-4 weeks. Quality has improved but past rains have limited the available product. Anjou, Bartlett and Bosc are available. All have excellent flavor. Markets are stable. Supplies are consistent with good quality. Brix has been averaging 13-14% with average internal gold color.
