Sermon Series for August
“The Church of God’s Dreams”
In our lives, everything seems to revolve around us. We are the center of our uni-verse. We know it shouldn’t be that way, but hard as we try, we find it difficult toovercome. As Christians, the center of our universe should be God, and God’swork. We need to be reminded periodically who we are, whose we are, and why weare here.In August, we will explore “The Church of God’s Dreams”. We are the Church. Weare the Body of Christ. Regardless of the denominational label or name on the frontsign, there are core values we need to understand. Who does God want us to be?What does God want us to remember? Why are we here? What is our purpose? How do we accomplish God’s purpose?Join me each Sunday in August, as we journey back to the basics. Let’s exploreagain the four fundamental aspects of being the Church.
Sunday, August 09 – “The Dream of Divine Love” Sunday, August 16 – “The Dream of Neighbor Love” Sunday, August 23 – “The Dream of Urgent Action” Sunday, August 30 – “The Dream of Lay Ministry”
A Special “Thank You” to Nicole Grayson

Sheoffered great leadership and spiritual direction for the young girls in our church, andassisted with many of the programs and ministries. Nicole’s last Sunday as youthintern was Sunday, August 2, but she will be with us the next couple of weeks inworship. I will recognize her at the end of an upcoming worship service, and I hopeyou will help me express our gratitude!

Prayer Concerns / Announcements
Answered Prayer
Earlier this summer, my doctor discovered a tumor on my thyroid and my name was added to the church prayer list. After sometests and several doctor visits, it was determined to be cancerous. I’ve spent my whole life devoted to the field of science and medi-cine and I knew that there are only 4 types of thyroid cancer: all of them malignant and all of them devastating. So when my doctoradvised me to undergo a surgery to remove the tumor, I didn’t have much hope for any positive outcomes. While in the hospital shortly before the surgery, my mind was filled with the stress of this situation: the delicate nature of the sur-gery, the types and natures of this cancer, my family, my friends. I was reminded of an article I had read from a medical journal –how stress is known to increase complications in surgery – which increased my stress! In my distress I cried out to the Lord and He heard my cry. I got down on my “prayer bones” and prayed to the Lord. I was filledwith a sense of peace, that no matter what took place on the operating table, God would take care of me, would take care of myfamily. There are 4 types of thyroid cancer: all of them malignant and all of them devastating. Praise the Lord, I had the 5
th
; a very rare can-cer, benign and removed without incident during my surgery.I write this to thank you for your prayers for Julie and me. I write this to give thanks to the God who has been sustaining me. And Iwrite this to remind you that every time a name from the prayer list disappears, there is a story of God’s grace and healing in theempty space.Don Zavala

“We Shall Not Sleep…..But we shall all be changed”I Corinthians 15:51 NRSV
We have been blessed with many new babies born into our church family. At their baptism, as a Congregation, we make a commitmentto the parents, and to the babies, to nurture and surround them in steadfast love. One such opportunity to minister to the babies andtheir families is by serving in our nursery. We now have immediate needs for loving arms in our infant and 2 year old nurseries, on Sun-day mornings. Would you be willing to help volunteer in the nursery? Please contact Nursery Coordinator, Ashley LeZotte for the specif-ics, and thank you in advance for your support. Her email address isashlezotte@yahoo.comCell: 223-2420
Thank you Ashley for doing such a wonderful job as Nursery Coordinator!
