Tonight Id like to speak to everyone about a fun, unique, and POSITIVE campaign well be launching this Friday, November

1st here in West Orange. This campaign is for everyone. It has nothing to do with politics. It has everything to do with working together as a community. Showing our strength in numbers, and projecting our positive voice as loud, far, and wide as we can. As a resident of this community and a member of the marketing team for the town, my hope and plan, is that this will be the first in a long series of campaigns and events we will do together -- as one community. So, a little history... In 2003, friends from Melbourne Australia were out on the town together. They questioned where the Moustache had gone and joked about bringing it back. Inspired by a friends mother who was fundraising for breast cancer, they sent around an email titled Are you man enough to be my man? and found 30 guys willing to take up the challenge. Those first 30 Mo Bros (as they were known) grew their moustaches with such enthusiasm that in 2004 a decision was made to formalise the concept and get all participants growing for a cause...to change the face of mens health...literally So...What started with 30 people in Australia just 10 years ago has grown to over 1.1 million participants worldwide in 2012. Last year the campaign raised over $147 million. Movember has continued to grow at an extraordinary pace, and today, with the support of millions of Mo Bros, Mo Sistas and their donors, Movember is fulfilling its vision: To have an everlasting impact on the face of mens health. The campaign has even drawn the attention & participation of celebrities including Ricky Gervais, Zac Efron, Joe Jonas, David Beckham, Lady Gaga, Kate Upton, Johnny Depp, Justin Beiber, and many others. This is where West Orange comes in. About 4-weeks ago, I reached out to the Dads on my sons soccer team about putting together a team for Movember. Pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming response, I recognized that this could be much bigger and decided to see if there was any interest from key leaders in town. Boy was there ever. From Mayor Parisi, to High School Principal Hayden Moore. Chief of Police James Abbott, Mountaintop League Vice President Pete Scalora, local business owners, friends, neighbors, and others, many of whom are here tonight -- I quickly realized we had something special on our hands. Could we get the entire town involved? Could we make enough noise as one community to get others to take notice? I believe the answer is YES -- so weve launched TEAM MO WO and everyone is welcome and encouraged to join by going to westorange.org/movember. For those who

join, you simply have to shave your face clean on November 1st. Throughout the month of November you will ONLY grow a moustache, nothing more. And although theres no obligation, hopefully youll reach out to friends, family, co-workers, and others to let them know about this exciting campaign your town is doing and ask that they donate. No donation is too small. To kick-off the month, weve partnered with local business 8to8 Barbershop located at 2 Northfield Ave. (Britney Chiles, partner) and will be hosting a Clean Shave event this Friday, November 1st, from 11am-1pm. Mayor Parisi, High School Principal Hayden Moore, Retro Fitness CEO Eric Casaburi, and others will be on hand to receive their clean shave to kick off the campaign. All are welcome to attend and participate but you can of course shave clean at home if you wish as well. If you're not able to get an appointment on Friday, never fear, 8to8 Barbershop accepts walk-ins on Saturdays. To end the month, weve partnered with The Pour House Pub & Grub located at 178 Main Street (Anthony Dagostino, owner) and will be hosting an end-of-month party for participants and supporters to celebrate what we accomplished together during the month. Additional details regarding dates and times of these and other events throughout the month will be made available via the town social profiles. As an aside, the town Facebook page hit 2K "likes" this past weekend (+260% from this time last year). Engagement and total reach are both through the roof seeing +1000% increase from this time last year. In closing, I'm calling on all residents of West Orange, regardless of gender, age, race, religion, or sexual preference, to come together as ONE community and show how strong our positive voice can be. Go to westorange.org/Movember and join Team Mo' WO! Thank you.
