 Absences
 
Excessive absences hinder a child’s progress.
If your child is absent, you must send a note to school when he/she returns. P
lease include your child’s
 name, date of absence, and the reason for the absence.
Art
 
Ms. Koops is our art teacher. The children will have art from 2:05-2:50 on arotating basis.
Attendance
 
Regular school attendance is essential for your child to make themost of his/her education. Please make every effort to have your child at schoolevery day.
Alphabet Knowledge
 
We will learn the letters of the alphabet and the soundsthe letters make in Kindergarten. I will do an alphabet knowledge assessmentbefore each grading period.
Assessment
Classroom observation, oral and written tests, and daily work are allused to assess the progress of your child. In addition, every child in the schooldistrict will be administered the Naglieri Non-verbal Test in March and the MAPtest in April. Arrival Time
 
School begins promptly at 9:15 A.M. Children who are late to schoolmust check in the office first before coming to the classroom. Students who arrivelate will be marked tardy.
 
 
Behavior Management Plan
 
In our classroom there is a pocket chart that I useto monitor the behavior of the students. Each child has a green, yellow, and redcard above their name. If a child breaks the classroom rules, they move their cardfrom green to yellow. This serves as a warning. If they break a rule a second time,they move their card
from yellow to red. Your child’s behavior will be marked each
day on a monthly calendar
that is placed inside your child’s home/school folder.
 
Birthdays
Birthdays are very important to children. Children are welcome tobring a treat for our class on their birthday. Please make sure it is an individualserving, and you include napkins with your t
reat. If your child’s birthday
falls on aSaturday or Sunday you may decide if you want to send the treat on Friday orMonday. Children who celebrate a birthday during the summer months maycelebrate their half birthday in school.If your child is planning a birthday party at home and wants to invite theirclassmates, it is always best to mail the invitations. This will avoid hurting thefeelings of children in our room who may not be invited. If this is not possible,
please put them in your child’s
home/school folder and I will make sure they aredistributed.
Book Orders
 
Throughout the year I will be sending home Scholastic book ordersfor you and your child to look over. If you want to place an order, please makechecks payable to the book company.
Backpacks
 
 
Please check your child’s backpack daily. Encourage children to only
put items in their backpack that are needed for school.
Book It
The Pizza Hut Book-It program begins in October and ends in March.Your child is encouraged to participate in this program. A letter will be sent out inOctober explaining the program.
 
Breakfast
Please serve your child eat a healthy breakfast every day beforecoming to school.
Clothing
 
Dress your child in comfortable clothes that is appropriate forKindergarten. Make sure your child remembers to wear gym shoes to school ondays that we are scheduled for physical education. Conferences
 
We will hold conferences in November and a second conferencepossibly in spring. You will have the opportunity to sign up for your conference timeat Open House. However, if you feel the need to see me at any time before orafter conferences,
please send me a note in your child’s home/school folder so we
can make arrangements to meet.
Computers
We have five brand new computers in our classroom and a computerlab in our building. The children will have the opportunity to use them throughoutthe school year.
Communication
 
Communication between home and school is very important. Thebest
way to contact me is through your child’s home/school folder. I will respond
to your message as soon as possible.
