JFTC is sponsoring JFTC Essay Competition 2009 to encourage students, young researchers and business people to express their opinions on matters of national and international importance.
One Grand Prize of 1,000,000 yen and three Prizes for Excellence of 200,000 yen
each will beawarded. In addition, the award-winners will be provided with a round trip air-ticket to Tokyo,Japan to attend the award ceremony to be held on January 8, 2010.The subject of the essay is
"How Should Global Capitalism be Corrected – Japan’s Role and Mission"
With the emergence of the worldwide financial crisis triggered by the subprime mortgage problem, the world economy is suffering from an unprecedented slump which is said to occur butonce in 100 years. This leads us to believe there must be some serious defects in Anglo-Americanstyle financial capitalism. If that is indeed the case, finding the way to correct and reform thesystem must be an urgent necessity.With these observations in mind, The Japan Foreign Trade Council (JFTC) decided to adopt“How Should Global Capitalism be Corrected – Japan’s Role and Mission” as the theme of thisyear’s JFTC Essay Competition. JFTC welcomes your active participation in the competition. Wewould appreciate it if your essay includes creative and insightful ideas about what Japan, Japanesecorporations including Japanese Shosha (general trading companies) can and should do towardrealizing your vision.Essays may be submitted by anyone regardless of nationality or age. Essays shall be type-writteneither in English or Japanese, no more than 4,000 words(in English) and 10,000 characters(inJapanese), including charts and tables. Each participant can submit one essay only. In your essaya) title of the essay, b) summary of the essay (approx. 400 words) should be provided on top of the essay.
 
Essays must be submitted by e-mail or air/sea-mail no later than Sept. 30, 2009, and shall not bereturned.
Essays must be submitted in the specified format sheet down-loaded from our Web site.Unless both essay title and summary are presented, such application shall be deemedincomplete and not be evaluated.JFTC Essay Competition 2009/ format sheet
Award-winners shall be publicly announced on December 15, 2009 on our Web site and benotified by e-mail, telephone or mail. Award-winning essays and the names of authors shall be posted on our Web site, "JFTC Monthly" and "JFTC News" etc.All submissions must be original. No previously published materials shall be accepted. All rightsto the award-winning essays shall be the exclusive property of JFTC.
