Fincher says medication helped some, butBeau continued to struggle, and his behav-ior was aecting the whole amily. “Ourdaughter, 11, told us she couldn’t take itanymore—he was increasingly unmanage-able and he was making her miserable. Weheard about Brain Balance and went to aseminar about a year ago to fnd out more.I am naturally skeptical and rugal, butater hearing about the program’s amaz-ing results, we decided we had to give it atry. We made helping Beau get better ournumber-one priority.”It wasn’t easy at frst, Fincher admits. “Thefrst thing we discovered is that Beau hassevere ood allergies—gluten, wheat, dairy and eggs. We had to learn how to shopand rethink the way we eat. And Beau wasreluctant to go to his sessions or the frstew weeks, but then he bought into it andlooked orward to them. Within nine to tenweeks, we saw a dramatic improvement. His teachers remarked at how mature hewas acting and how much he’d changed. Hewent rom being a behavior problem to get-ting all A’s and S’s in conduct. He went rombeing a year behind grade level to just shy o grade level. We’ve drastically decreased hismedication, and we think he’ll be ready tomove out o IEP entirely and into a regularclassroom by Christmas.“When I met Beau last year, I knew thatwe could help him,” afrms Dr. Peter Scire, executive director o the local Brain Bal-ance Centers. He was struggling with theclassic symptoms o ADHD—excessivedistractibility, restlessness, impulsive-ness, rage—and our program is designedto address the underlying cause or thesesymptoms while medications are ormu-lated to treat the symptoms. The greatmajority o children graduating romour program are on less medication orcompletely o their medication. I knewthat with the right assessment we coulddevelop an individual plan or him thatwould be successul.
