“Reinventing Morse: Build your own Telegraph” and Educational Standards
“Reinventing Morse: Build your own Telegraph” is an educational science kit designed and manufactured byHarris Educational for use in schools, home schools, science fairs, and by hobbyists. The kit includes a 24page instruction manual that details multiple engaging science experiments that can be safely performedusing the kit. The experiments are designed with best practices in mind and are meant to be open endedand inquiry based. Student experimenters are encouraged to ask questions, find answers, and testhypothesis that help illustrate science and technology principles. The instructions were designed with twosets of educational standards in mind:The National Science Educational Standards as published by the National Science Resources Center (NSRC) and endorsed by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA).http://www.nsta.org/publications/nses.aspxandThe Standards for Technological Literacy as published by the International Technology EducationAssociation (ITEA)http://www.iteaconnect.org/TAA/Publications/TAA_Publications.htmlIt is our hope that by focusing on standards this science kit will more easily fit into a school's sciencecurriculum, conform to the goals of that curriculum, and provide a familiar and easy to teach set of subjectmatter for educators. It is also our goal that by focusing on standards this kit will be more valuable to homeschooling parents and to science hobbyists and science fair participants. This document will list the experiments included in the instruction guide for this science kit and will cite thespecific science and technology standards addressed by this science kit.
