Dear Friends, David Bacon, an internationally renowned author and photo-journalist will speak on immigrants' rights based on his recently published book, THE RIGHT TO STAY HOME.

and is part of a series on immigration reform talks held at the Cesar Chavez Legacy Service Center located at 1504 East Commerce St. in San Antonio, TX. Click here to visit David Bacon's Website.
"The immigrants' plight is everyone's concern and it is important to inform and educate the community on this issue," said Jaime P. Martinez, president of the Cesar E. Chavez Legacy and Educational Foundation. "It's time to shift gears and call on President Obama to act" pointing out that most likely Congress will fail to approve a comprehensive immigration reform in 2013. The Cesar Chavez immigration reform forum is organized to involve the community at large in this public debate by inviting experts in the subject such as David Bacon.
David Bacon is author of
Illegal People - How Globalization Creates  Migration and Criminalizes Immigrants, The Children of NAFTA, Communities Without Borders and The Right to Stay Home
in which he makes a case of how US foreign policy displace Latino workers forcing them to leave their home communities to survive.
He Travels frequently to Mexico, the Philippines, and Iraq. Bacon also hosts a half-hour weekly radio show on labor, immigration and the global economy on KPFA-FM, and is a frequent guest on KQED-TV's This Week in Northern California. For twenty years, Bacon was a labor organizer for unions in which immigrant workers made up a large percentage of the membership. Those include the United Farm Workers, the United Electrical Workers, the International Ladies' Garment Workers, the Molders Union and others. Those experiences gave him a unique insight into changing conditions in the workforce, the impact of the global economy and migration, and how these factors influence the struggle for workers' rights. Torn between his duties as a husband and father and his commitment to bringing dignity and justice to others, Chavez embraced non-violence as he  battled greed and prejudice in his struggle for the rights of farm workers.
