ittle is known of the firstritual performances of mankind. Thescant evidence of early shamanistic orinterpretively magickal activities can befound in the cave paintings left at a timethat predates written language. Fromthese fragments of lost symbols anddepiction’s it becomes obvious that thefirst humans to push beyond the realmof the known were most often solitarypractitioners attempting to explore theirperception of the beyond. Lone explorerswho had found a realm to explore thattook them both within themselves andout beyond anything we can understandas self.
 
In the years that evolved from thisprehistoric mankind toward the complexcivilizations of the ancient world on tomodern society the shape of ritual hastaken on its own changing path. Themodel of the classic world settling in on vague memories of how we think thingsoccurred, how we guess man practicedmagic in the past. A looking back, to a time and place that we perceive as purerand more directly involved in knowing.But in this often erroneous yearning for the past that never was, even inour fantasies, we overlook the start, weforget the cave. The practice of solitary exploration andself initiation goes back to those firstguess work passes at exploring the mindand the nature of the human conditionbeyond the perceived world.
