Dear Legislator:We, the undersigned organizations, would like to express our support for the
DREAMAct of 2009
(H.R. 1751/S.729). We hope that Congress acts quickly to enact this piece of legislation. Each year, approximately 65,000 undocumented students graduate from U.S. highschools. These students, raised as Americans, deserve a chance to become legal residentsof the country where they grew up.The DREAM Act will provide a path to legal status for individuals brought to the U.S. aschildren. Under the DREAM Act, most students with good moral character who came tothe U.S. at age 15 or younger and have lived in the U.S. for at least five years before thedate of the bill’s enactment would qualify for
conditional permanent resident status
uponacceptance to college, graduation from a U.S. high school, or being awarded a GED inthe U.S. The conditional status will be lifted if the student completes at least two years of college or serve in the military. We urge your support for this important legislation.AFL-CIOAmerican Jewish CommitteeAmerican Association of Community CollegesAnti-Defamation LeagueAsian American Justice Center Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, AFL-CIOCARECEN LAChurch World ServiceCLILA - Coalition of Latino LeadersEpiscopal ChurchFirst FocusHebrew Immigrant Aid SocietyHispanic Association of Colleges and UniversitiesHmong National Development, Inc.Immigrant Legal Resource Center Japanese American Citizens LeagueLabor Council for Latin American AdvancementLeadership Conference on Civil Rights (LCCR)Lutheran Immigrant and Refugee ServiceMexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF)The National Advocacy Center of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE) National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Community Development National Council of La Raza (NCLR)
