Television is one of the medias with the most influence in the lives of children.

They watch an average of 15 hours per week. Isnt that too much for them? The influence of television on children depends on several factors: the number of hours spent watching television, their age, personality, watching TV alone or with adults and finally the discussions with their parents on the content that they are allowed to see. But yes, they are influenced by what is shown on TV. Television has the potential to be both positive and negative. Emissions are not all bad, but the data show that the negative effects of exposure to violence, a sexual and inappropriate offensive language are very compelling. Violence Over the past two decades , hundreds of studies have evaluated the influence of violent content on children and youth. Although it is difficult to conclude a direct cause and effect, there is a consensus that certain children may be vulnerable to violent images and messages. Researchers have identified three possible reactions in children exposed to violent content : The increased fear of children , especially girls, the desensitization to violence in general(e.g.Some cartoons for children are among the most violent programs), the aggressive behavior(e.g.after watching a show or a violent movie). Parents should also pay special attention to the television news that their children watch . Studies have shown that they fear the violence portrayed on the news that one in any type of issue. Thats why he must know from a little age what is real violence and fictional one. Effects on child development Television can affect learning and school performance if it encroaches on the essential physical and mental development of the child activities. Childrens free time, especially toddlers , should be mainly devoted to play, read , explore nature , learn music or play sports. Listening to the TV is a passive activity and a factor in the problem of childhood obesity . According to the Foundation of heart disease in Canada, almost one in four children aged seven to twelve is obese . Also, according to the researchers , viewers feel when turning the TV instant relaxing effect , but soon disappears off the small screen. While people generally have more energy after a sport or recreational activity , they tend to feel drained after a session of television. In addition to encouraging a sedentary lifestyle , television can also contribute to childhood obesity by the indiscriminate promotion of junk food . According to the Canadian Paediatric Society , the majority of food advertisements broadcast during children's programs boast fast food , candy and sugary cereals . The healthy food messages are only 4 % of ads shown . Large sums of money are invested in the production of advertisements that may influence consumer behavior.

In conclusion, Tv in not bad for children if they are watching their favourite cartoon 20 minutes a day. But if they are abandoned in front of the television, their future will not be promising. Thats why playing, reading, learning an instrument, playing soccer are much better than television- more healthy and they dont have a negative influence on children.
