What are study skills?
Because you are studying a creative subject you may imagine youwill not have much writing to do. However, OCA’s courses areboth practical and academic. Even the artcourses have writtenelements to them. These areas crucial to your development asthe practical side. That’s why taking a look at this study skillsbooklet is just as important if you are studying sculpture, paintingorany other practical subject as a directly academic course suchas Visual Studies or Art History for example. Many of OCA’scourses have written assignments at some point in them.
As an adult learner your approach tolearning may be different from the lasttime you studied, especially if that was atschool. You can choose what you want to study, have professional and/or personalmotivation for studying and you will haveto fityour study activities around otherresponsibilities. You control your learning environment. As a result, you must think about thingslike time management, goal setting, andpacing yourself through a new learningexperience. You may also have to refreshyour knowledge on essay planning andyou may be new to using the web as alearning resource. Your most significantconsiderations will be time and space todedicate to your learning.
