Description

THE BABY CHASE: A CONFESSION is a 75,000-word story of infertility and the insane lengths some people go to in pursuing their dream of becoming a "real" American family.

L.A.-based thirty-somethings Thaisa and Ira Jordan have been married only a few years when they discover they cannot have children--at least not the way they expected. They go through numerous exasperating medical interventions until they consult a famous expert (and sperm-bank entrepreneur), who sends them to Tijuana for an experimental sperm-generating drug. There, they stare at a little Mexican girl who's begging on a street corner and, distraught from hopelessness, and seeing no parent or guardian in sight, conspire to put her in the car. Crossing the border is surprisingly easy, but as the days and weeks pass and they try to pass her off as a niece, or a daughter by adoption, they're haunted by mounting guilt and the ever-closer INS. They flee their home and attempt to start a new life until they're forced to face the enormity of their sins and attempt some form of restitution.
