How to tweet
 –
the non definitive practical guide for beginner twitter teachers
As seasoned twitter teaching fanatics we are often so eager to spread the learning twitterthat we forget that beginner
twits
might be daunted by what we take for granted: thesimple steps of how to put a tweet together. So this is for you.
Step 1:
You have
140 characters
to say your say. Type this in the little window and hit
update
 
Step 2
If you want to
send a message
to someone (or mention/creditthem) type
@theirtwittername
(no spaces) in your tweet.They will be able to see the message in their reply twitter feed(the list of twitters that mentions them) by clicking on
@theirname
on the right (green strip). You will find yourmentions in the same way or
.
Step 3
If you want to
reply to someone
you can also hover yourcurser over a tweet and then click on the little arrow whichwill insert @thepersonstwittername automatically into yourtweet window, ready for you to type your message
Step 4:
You can send someone a private message PROVIDED they are already
following you
. We callthis a
direct message or DM
. This message will also go to their e-mail address, which makesit a great way to communicate quickly. Neither your followers or theirs or anybody else willsee this message. To send a DM just type
d theirtwittername
(space between the d andtheir twitter name) and your message. Or you can click on your direct messages under yourHome tab, choose the person
s name and type your message.
Step 5:
Remember to check your @yourname and direct messages often and respond (either replywith @ or DM with a d!!)
