Gayle S. Rubin (1949) es antroploga cultural y mejor conocida como activista y terica influyente en polticas de sexo y gnero. Ha escrito acerca de varios temas que incluyen feminismo, sadomasoquismo, prostitucin, pedofilia, pornografa y literatura lesbiana, as como estudiosantropolgicos sobre subculturas sexuales.

Fom parte de la junta directiva del Museo y archivos de la cultura leather desde 1992 al 2000. En 1994, Rubin finaliza su doctorado en Antropologa en la Universidad de Mchigan, Estados Unidos, con una disertacin titulada The Valley of the Kings: Leathermen in San Francisco, 1960 1990 (El valle de los reyes: leathers en San Francisco de 1960 a 1990"). Actualmente, Rubin trabaja como asistente de profesor en antropologa en dicha universidad. En 2006 recibe una notoriedad y unos elogios indeseados al aparecer en la lista de la obra de David Horowitz, "The Professors: The 101 Most Dangerous Academics in America" ("Los 101 profesores ms peligrosos de Norteamrica").
